I have social anxiety disorder due to a medical condition. I seen my regular physican and he put me on Effexor (anti deppressant) and also Lorezapam (anti anxiety) as needed. With that and decreasing the stress in my life has helped alot. I do my best to only allow people that I feel comfortable with around me. For awhile I had to avoid several people in my life because my self esteem always took a beating when I was around them. Once I was more sure of myself and surrounded myself with encouraging people then I was able to go "out and take on the world" one day at a time. Hope this helped you.

Howdy! Sorry about the shopping feelings. I have the same feelings because I am 6 feet tall, large and have hardly any hair because of chemo. So we are opposites. Do you feel better taking a friend? Ask the friend to see if people are looking at you. I've noticed that people sometimes know someone is looking at them, so they look back and it seems as if they have been looking all along. My tricks: I usually go to the same section of this one store. There is a door right to that section. The saleswomen are friendly and always say hello. I also have a coffee house where people are used to me. This is not much progress, I know but I don't really like to go anywhere anymore. Driving is tiring, so is walking and standing. Eventually I'll just stay in the house and do things on the internet. Seriously, there's drugs for anxiety which combined with therapy can help some people figure out what's going on and learn to overcome step by step. The problem is that if you don't work on it, it may get worse. You may end up housebound. Good luck!

Yes, the doctor will put you on an anxiety medication or an anti depressant, I forget which one. After you take this pill for about two weeks, you should no longer have that problem as long as you stay on the medication
