No, it's not dead. It always evolves. And, it can't be dead, I have 12 panals that I'm working on right now.

I think the question is not do people still paint, but is the work being produced progressive, revolutionary or evolutionary...or has it stagnated? Seems to me there is no current "ism" such as those that defined new directions over the past 100 years or so. Sure, there is a lot of art (paintings) to look at and admire but what can we say about the state of painting that would define a current eminence?

No, but a lot of it looks that way.

What does not move foreword is dead, as the teacher that is no longer a student becomes obsolete! So with painting and all art forms. Still, the personal experience is or should be immune as it is about personal evolution and therefore always valid.

Peace.

No, it's always reported to be dying and then it comes back with a vengeance. Until people stop living in houses with walls on which they want to hang pictures on its still in with a chance of survival. New media just doesn't have the same 'hang it on the wall' thing going on, at least not yet.

No, it is most certainly not dead and never will be. Some charlatans have dealt it great blows, but it survives.

No. Art critics and patrons only need to open their eyes and minds to what's being produced these days.
