I was thinking about going to Australia during my vacations. Prefer non expensive places. Somewhere college students would go. Can anyone recommend some good ski resorts?

There are 5 major resorts. Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller in Victoria, and Thredbo and Perisher Blue in New south Wales. Each are equally good resorts compared to each other. However, compared to North America, Europe and Japan they are plagued by marginal snow conditions, as they are all very close to the natural snow line, and relatively high temperatures.

The NSW resorts are close to an off mountain town called Jindabyne, which has a range of accommodation and is probably the cheapest option for a college student.

I would go to Australia to go skiing. The best would be to take a short plane trip to Queenstown in New Zealand. Otherwise Thredbo or Mt Buller are perfectly good snow fields, nothing like they have overseas though. Whichever is closest would be cheapest, but NZ would be best.

New Zealand...HEAPS of auzzies come here to NZ...as do people from Japan etc. Its usually cheap to do here, there are more choices (Eg Mt Ruapehu has a couple, in the south island there is lots in the canterbury and southland/otago regions eg queenstown area)
