For the first time call 1 888 227 7669, this is the phone of AARP that will give you the places that it offers free taxes done. And E filing also. Let them do it the first time and then if you want to do it later either do it be hand or get a good program like turbo tax. Ask questions while you are there, lots of good info from them old guys.

Get a software program such as Turbo tax. Fill in the blanks and get the return filed by April 17th. Mail it certified mail/return receipt requested so that you have proof of mailing.
Don't be afraid of filing your return - it's not that tough!
