Affection Crisis?

I've been with my bf on and off for about 4 yrs, we recently broke up in dec., and now we're back together for the past 3 months. I text message him, i email him, and i call him, and i even tell him i love him cuz it just comes out of me. Even after everything we have gone through, i truly believe that i luv him, but sometimes i feel like i am more affectionate then him, he used to email me and text msg me and tell me he loves but. I confront him the other and he just told me that i am just more affectionate and that he doesn't tell me loves me as much because i don't give him a chance, he says he does love me. And that i shouldn't fix something that isn't broken. Is he lying or that he's just not into the relationsip? or just not in love. Sometime he just has these mood swings, i'll came him and he's just cranky or dry, and he's excuse of not talking, he says, is that he is just tired or there's nothing new. I know he might be stressed cuz he wants to get into med school.

Two things: One you might want to realize that not everyone has the same concept on showing love as you. Been intimate with a lady for 3 years now and she comes from a family that never says "i love you", but her actions speck volumes. Two on that same level this guys actions don't seem fair. I mean we get into a relationship so that life becomes easier to deal with, because the burden becomes lighter, because we have more purpose. So this guy isn't really loving you in his life... be afraid.... his actions should at the very least say "I love you" these actions thou are suspect....
