When I was younger and had my braces I used to get terrible sores in my mouth from them. I used Anbesol antiseptic for babies. I would put it on the sores. It would burn a little at first about 2-3 seconds and then no pain for hours. This helped me through this terrible ordeal. It allowed me to be able to eat again. I suggest it to anyone with sores. Also the antiseptic helps to heal the sore faster and keep the mouth clean. The ambesol is what numbs it.

Once and a while I get sours on the inside of my lips, most likely from acidy food or doing something stupid like accidentally biting it. The best thing you can do is to purchase something like Orajel from your local pharmacy. It only acts as an antistatic so you can't feel it, but these kind of mouth sores usually have to heal on their own, but at least this helps the pain subside for a bit so you can eat without pain. You can also try swishing around warm salt water and spitting it out too, though that's not good for relieving any pain "longterm".

Sounds like you have a canker sore. You can apply a gel (like ambesol made for cankers) and meanwhile, gargle with listerine 2x per day. Yes, it will sting. But it will heal faster because most cankers are bacterial, listerine kills the germs. I've had them- those were the solutions that worked best for me.
