if they weren't necessary jesus would have said so but he spoke to this wise, i shall send unto you some prophets and scribes and some of them ye shall slay and persecute...etc. he also stated as it was in the days of noah and lott so would it be in the end time which we are in. noah and abraham were gentile prophets. no jews existed in noahs day and abraham was called out of the chaldeans which are gentiles and God made him the 1st hebrew. any time the earth came into an apostate condition God always sends a prophet to correct the error but he is never received by many, only a few. william branham was such a gentile prophet in our day thus fulfilling christ 's words as i have stated here. he also fulfilled the words that jesus spoke, the works that I do shall you do also, yet greater works shall you do.
prophets always spoke foretelling the coming of christ in the old testament and the bible runs in continuity so there will be prophets foreteling of christ's 2nd coming

The Mormons believe that prophets are part of the need to fill in the gaps of the missing parts of the Bible. However, scripture states clearly that the prophets ended with John the Baptist. As Jesus said in Matthew 11:13, “For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John."

Latter day prophets can only prove their word is from God if they prophesy something that will take place and prove it is from God. I have never seen that in any sect--including Mormons, and their Book of Mormon.

Deut. 18:20-22
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak...that prophet shall die.’
“And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’
“when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Actually, quite the opposite. God gave you the Bible, and if you have Jesus to forgive all your sins, you can ask the Holy Spirit to talk to you as you read the Bible. That is when ALL the lights go on.

1 John 1:5
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

You have been given two revelations, if not three.
1. Jesus Christ 2. the Bible 3. Israel in biblical prophesy. All you have to do is open your eyes, read the bible.

Do we need prophets ? oh yes !!! Apostles, can't improve on the first ones !!!

I know it is a movie, but have you ever seen "Oh God!" w/ John Denver? It is a comedy about a guy who speaks to god and no one believes him. Basically, they think he is crazy. It is sad to say,but if their were modern day prophets no one would believe them. Our world has gotten too big and controversial. And no we are not left in the dark. If you ever need guidance or have the need to find comfort and hope, just read the portion of the bible that most pertains to the certain issue you are dealing with.

Yes. Honestly, why would God just give us a book an leave us to do everything else? He doesn't leave us. There is a prophet on this earth, and there are apostles.

Prophets and apostles are most necessary today as they were in Jesus' time.

Apostles are not prophets. The modern equivalent of an apostle is a Bishop.

According to the Bible they are needed, but most of Christianity rejects the idea, believing that they are saved with only half of the church organization the Lord established.
