Why do they need to claim morality comes from the supernatural and mythological?

Why do you need Heaven and Hell to make you behave properly?

When you were 2 years old and had no idea of "God" what did you do?

When atheist parents teach children right and wrong w/o bogeymen, and the kids abide by right and wrong with no concept of God, how do you explain that?

Are you saying you have no conception at all that it's bad to, for example, rob someone, without you believing there is some third party looking down on you??

How more general can I be than "theist"?! How am I saying every theist is Christian? Duh!

Perhaps you theists who think I am calling you Christian are a little too self absorbed.

Do you really believe that atheists believe that morality comes from supernatural or mythological being, I would believe the exact opposite.

In any case, we live in a society, where people regularly assign responsibility for action to someone else, especially in a litigious society like the United States.

Do we really believe someone else was responsible for making the coffee too hot and thus we stupidly burn ourselves. Where does it end? My point is, that it's not just atheists, but society as a whole. Everyone is always looking for someone else to assign responsibility, and to make it seem like somebody else is making rules that they can follow. Personally I think it's a copout.

Not all theists are Christians, you know.

My morality comes from my heart, not from whatever Gods may or may not exist. I chose my religion because of my morality, not the other way around, and would behave the same way if it were conclusively proven that all Gods were an illusion. I am ultimately responsible for all my actions, beneficial and harmful, and am accountable for them.

Sorry we theists don't all fit into the neat little box you seem to have carved for us. :-)

EDITED TO ADD: If you mean theists in general terms, you might have avoided terms like Heaven and Hell, which ARE Christian terms, you know. Or perhaps you didn't...

Well it appears to me like the theists to which you are referring to, think of virtue or the good as an invisible, immaterial thing that humans can't control, and that has been embedded into our souls by God. since God placed those ideas of what is virtuous, good, or moral; and since we are the slaves( for lack of a better word) of God, then it would be wise if we should follow whatever God says and whatever God has planned for us in our lives. I think, that they rely on the supernatural in order to explain morality or what is excellent or good because they can't reason or come up with (or forbid themselves from doing so) any other causes for why we humans believe that there is a good, and why we should follow that good and not what is "bad". Can you, as an atheist( I assume), tell me where did your ideas of what is Good and what is bad, come from? Did they just appear OUT OF NOWEHRE one day through reasoning? and if you answer "society" or "my family," then where did they get theirs?

There is no God. It is just impossible for something like that to exist. It's retarded to believe in god there is no proof. If god exists then maybe santa exists and santa has powers over your parents to buy you junk. The only reason anyone came up with the existince (spelling?) of god was probably because they had no excuse for something they did so they made up a fictional character for a scapegoat.

Our Father in Heaven teaches His children discipline. Just like your father would teach you discipline, but he may do it by using a paddle, grounding you, or putting restrictions on your activities. God does it through Heaven and Hell. Those who are good and obedient are with Him and those who disobey and stray away from Him will have a different fate.

Without theology, where is right and wrong? Who decides the boundaries of it without knowledge of the difference? One more thing, nobody would choose to do good without consequences for doing bad. Even the worst doctrines have rewards and consequences dude....

My actions are my own. I choose to do good, I choose to do bad. I accept responsibility of my actions, and therefore I ask of God to forgive me.

I believe morality comes from the supernatural because I agree with it and believe it. I wouldn't be a Christian if I didn't agree with my beliefs. I am a Christian because I believe it is correct. I belive the commandments are correct.

Unlike popular belief, I am not a mindless zombie. Maybe if you grew a sturdy spin and got your head out of your *** you might realise that someday...

it's a bit neurotic isn't it hey they say the world is schizophrenic... I think ignorance of the actual reasons is replaced with tactical threats and rewards to influence the more primitive minds of those times .

I've often wondered this. It's as though without god, they'd all be raving murderers, rapists and theives. And they always want to blame the devil for their sins.....
