I posted a note on a corkboard asking if Vanessa would be interested in having coffee; instead, someone placed a pearl white, rosary (beaded) crucifix of jesus on top of the thumbtack that held the letter to the board. This was at the Nursing building on the Main Arizona State campus today. I hadn't seen or heard from Vanessa in a couple of months but she was remarkable for two reasons: she was a journalism student and had some sort of hearing impairment or speech impediment. And she was remarkably nice to me, which is unusual for complete strangers (most people are either into themselves or busy with their iPods).

What is the meaning of the pearl white, rosary (beaded) crucifix of Jesus? Did she die in a car accident or something?

Paul

Rosaries come in many different colors. The colors themselves don't really mean anything except to the user. I have one made out of rosewood and one made out of amythist (my birthstone). Both mean something to me, but they aren't "color coded".

Why was it hung there? Perhaps someone found it and put it on the cork board hanging from the only thing they could find, your thumbtack.

I believe, historically, they were used as a means of keeping track of the psalms. There are 50 beads separated into 10 beads per decade, and it is usually said 3 times (which makes 150, same number as the psalms) in order to count for one entire rosary. before St Dominic (circa 1215) the rosary was refered to as the Psalter It is not a far-off guess that religious and holy people of Jesus' day used such things to keep track of their daily obligation of prayer. Many religions have beads to remind them of their duty and love toward God.

I'm just going to guess that somebody found the crucifix and put it on the corkboard for the person who lost it. They didn't have a tack, so they used the same one that you were already using for your note.

Thats really wierd. Maybe the cross has nothing to do with your note to Vanessa.

just the thought of it lmao! a pearl white rosary isn't that the most ironic focus of what christianity has become . how about matching ivory door handles for the church tower.

I would be willing to bet it did not mean anything and it just happened to end up there.
