Is christianity about worshiping God or Jesus? It is said in the Christian religion not to worship idols, and that is what Jesus has seemed to become. At least that is the impression I get when I go to church or look at some of the christian profiles saying "I am a follower of Jesus," etc, and so on. It seems that we pedestalize Jesus and sort of kick him upstairs saying "OK, he was the son of god, but no one else." Nevermind the fact that Jesus said that we will do greater works than he did. Nevermind the fact that he quoted from the psalm scriptures "You are gods..." He said the scripture cannot be broken. What do you think Christians, are you idolaters?

When you claim that Jesus is God, without claiming that of yourself, you are putting Jesus up onto a pedestal and creating an idol out of him. If I am using scripture out of context when I quote "You are gods" from psalms, then you are claiming the same of Jesus, because that was his reply to those accusing him of blasphemy. He said in a nutshell, that if God told those he was speaking to that "they are gods" and that the scripture cannot be broken, then why do they say that Jesus is a blasphemer if he says that he is a son of god?

To missy and anomaly, that finger bit has the hint of buddhism to it. Ever hear of the finger pointing to the moon? I agree that many people either look at the finger or suck on it for pacification...

I've been feeling the same way lately. It seems like Jesus is pointing to God saying "he is the way" and many Christians are standing there looking at Jesus' finger.

Sometimes I feel the same way. But then I remember there are fanatics too. The type that has "Jesus" everywhere. And there are some who even forget God. But God and Jesus do go hand and hand as does the OT & the NT. The way I see it is the Tabernacle has two rooms. I waiting room and a throne room (So to speak) Now if God is on one side of the curtain, then J.C. would be on the other side. Yes? He said "I am the light and the way..." but understand the way to where? To God. That is where J.C. is taking you. To see his Father. (Now you might say "How is that possible?" Simple. Through the Word.)

Nope.
Psalm 82
This psalm is directed to the judges. It has a solemn mood because the psalmist is unhappy with man's judgments.
v.1 The Hebrew word for "gods" is also translated "judges," because a judge has authority over a person's destiny. God will judge the judges.
v.2 "The persons of the wicked" are the unrighteous rich, influential, and prominent.
v.6 Here again "gods" means "judges" (Exodus 22:28). Jesus also quoted this in John 10:34. A god in this sense is anyone or anything having power over your life.
v.8 The only righteous judgment will be executed when God judges the earth.

True Christians don't worship Jesus. But again this opens the "who are true Christians" can of worms. The man- made doctrine of the trinity has caused many to be misled into thinking that Jesus is God and vice- versa. True Christians know the difference between what Jesus taught and what men have taught. I am doing research on every statement Jesus made about himself and about God. So far I've found nothing in the bible that indicates that Jesus thought he was God or that they are part of some "trinity". Jesus does, however, say many things indicating that he is beneath and subject to God, his Father. Worshipping Jesus or an image of Jesus could definitely be considered idolotry. Ironically, all the images you see of "Jesus" are a farce anyway, since no one knows what he really looked like. People are worshipping the image of "some guy". Could look exactly like Satan for all we know!!!

No Jesus himself was God. The gospel of John even says that even though he himself was God he did not equate himself as being equal to God - so was his humility. We, as true Christians (I am speaking of Catholics) are truly members of the Body of Christ so, basically we are one with God through Jesus and being as one with God with Jesus we may do even more---How do you know we have not? Peter and Paul both brought people back from the dead and if you read some of the stories of the lives of the Saints you would realize that much has been done in his name.

Jesus is God. Jesus is God and man. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary but Mary was impregnated by the Holy Spirit (God) God has three figures. Father, Son (Jesus, and Holy Spirit. Three God heads but one God. ....triune God. Think of it like a team. There are separate people, separate individual members but these separate members compose one team. The St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. It wasn't the individual people, it was the team that won. God..Father, Son, Holy Spirit is sort of like that. Jesus Himself said if anyone say Him, they saw God. Jesus said "the Father and I are one." That being the case, Jesus is God. Jesus died for our salvation-forgiveness of sin. His human part could die. His God part could, and did, rise from the dead. No one could die but then, after three days, raise from the dead. Jesus came back to life and arose, in front of witnesses, back to Heaven. No one else could do such a thing. Jesus is God and the Bible shows it as such.

Christians are only to worship God. We recognize and respect Jesus for sacrificing his life for us, but, God demands "exclusive devotion" (Exodus 20:5) and only HE is deserving of such.

jesus was god and god is perfect then why did jesus have to seek advice from himself wouldn't he already know what he needed to know? and for that matter why did he have to die for our sins? if he was god and god is capable of everything then why didn't he just choose to forgive us of our sins rather then die for them? even for god that seems a little extreme to die that way if you don't have to. I'm sorry i just don't buy the whole jesus is god and god is jesus after all doesn't it say god gave his only son to the people i'm sure it doesn't say god gave himself to the people.

Jesus IS God. He is a part of the Trinity. Jesus says that He is, ...I AM. He's trying to say that He is God. but the Hly Spirit and so is God the Father, they are also God. that is the Trinity. and when we say I am a follower of Jesus...they are right. but they are not saying He is an idol...becuase Jesus says that if u would like to be His disciple....that u should take up ur cross daily and follow Him.
to put it simple, idolatry is the worshipping of false gods. is Jesus a false god? No. therefore it is not idolatry.
