The alleged images of God are not true God. Nobody have seen God.
God is prohibiting mankind not to make graven images of him which are made of stone, wood or lumber, plastic.

Here are some verses of the bible about images:
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping thing

Deu 5:7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
Deu 5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Deu 5:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

The changes of those false images of God is the work of man like the carpenter who is making wooden images of God then he will sell those images to some
believers which make him a big businessman. They are making money out of that false image of God..

The Muslims get over any sense of controversy on this by banning any images of God or even man. The Hindus are on the opposite end of the scale with their marvellously colourful (in both respects) images of their Gods. The Buddha always looks sublime, whatever strange things they depict him doing. Christian images of God seem to be limited to that gruesome image of a man being tortured to death. I'm glad the Jews didn't use impaling in those days.

Image of God
Man was made in the image of God (Gen. 1:26). The image of God is generally held to mean that people contain within their nature elements that reflect God's nature: compassion, reason, love, hate, patience, kindness, self-awareneness, etc. Though we have a physical image, it does not mean that God has one. Rather, God is spirit (John 4:24), not flesh and bones (Luke 24:39).

Immutability
The divine attribute of unchangeableness. God said in Exodus 3:14, "I AM that I AM," signifying His eternal sameness and His sovereignty. He cannot change His moral character, His love, His omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, etc. God is "From everlasting to everlasting," (Psalm 90:2).

Immutability does not mean that God does not vary. The incarnation is just such an example of variation. Also, God's attitude toward a person is changed when the person becomes a Christian. For example, the enmity between God and man is removed (Rom. 5:10).

Are there any contemporary images of god, other than in Hollywood films that is? Even the most fundamentalist Christians don't think of god as an actual being do they?

There is no image of god. Equally, there is no image of you either.

Any intermediate meditator will tell you the same thing. I have experienced my "own" nothingness. In that, there is both nothing and everything. No image, no substance. Just one.

When the mind does not desire, you then can transcend beyond the mind. There are no icons, no imagery. Just "you" which is the oneness in all totality.

Good question! I am a white, blonde haired-bllue eyed Christian and sometimes wonder why Jesus is always portrayed as blonde and blue-eyed. I kinda doubt that is what he looked like. And it also seems strange to me that whenever I see a picture or statue of Jesus that is black I see some people get so freaked out!lol If I have my geography right at all he was middle eastern. I think when we really see Him we might be very asshamed of making fun or feeling better than some people that look just like Him.

Well orginally God has been portrayed as a great and mysterious figure but now people view him as an entity of light and physically you can't see God.
