I'm a VERY heavy sleeper. There have been nights when I slept with the alarm clock on the bed, and inch from my ear. In the morning, I set it an hour before I have to wake up and, 2 hours later, I'm still asleep. What can I do to make it easier to wake up (other than go to sleep earlier)?

As you lay in bed, falling asleep, note the time on the clock. Think about, what time you want to get up, and how many hours, that is in the future. Tell yourself, you will get up at that time, stay focused.

This may seem like a lot of effort initially. However, it becomes second nature, after awhile. I rarely, use an alarm clock.

Is he getting enough sleep? If he's not ill, sleeps for more than 8-9 hours and it's still a chore to wake him, then he may have an actual sleep disorder or health problem that makes him crave sleep. Most grownups learn to wake themselves, usually with a device called an "alarm clock". There's no reason you have to do it the old-fashioned "manual" way. If you're in a catch-22 where he gets mad when you wake him and gets mad if you DON'T wake him, this sounds like a sick relationship dynamic and you need to work together to find a solution that eliminates him getting mad at you for not making him responsible for his own sleep and waking habits.

Get the loudest, most obnoxious alarm clock you can find and put it completely across the room from you so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Drink a glass of orange juice when you turn it off to wake your body up. Set up another alarm clock down the hall if you need to (if you think you might go back to sleep when you turn the first one off). I hope this helps. Good Luck!

you should set the alarm clock across the room and turn it up really loud. you can also set your TV to come on at a certain time and you can turn your TV up really loud. if you leave you TV on a rock channel and in when it comes on in the morning really loud...it should wake you up....you can also get a wake up call from a good friend.

Most people wake up using their reticular activating system, and yours seems to be on the fritz. Have you talked to a physician about your problem? As a practical solution perhaps you could devise some sort of a water o'clock.
