It depends on your individuality.

I am not one but a good friend is an atheist. He says he just thinks we are born, live and die. He says there is no after life but we all know what is right and wrong and should be good people. He doesn't think believing in a deity makes you good, there are many bad religious people in the world. We have a lot of conversations about it. He also says that we were created from evolution, not poof one day the world existed. He says it doesn't make sense with all the science we have today. Hope it helps even though it isn't coming from me!

"Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations. And, finally, here are some completely gratuitous pictures of penises to annoy the censors and to hopefully spark some sort of controversy, which, it seems, is the only way, these days, to get the jaded, video-sated public off their f*cking arses and back in the sodding cinema. Family entertainment? Bollocks. What they want is filth: people doing things to each other with chainsaws during Tupperware parties, babysitters being stabbed with knitting needles by gay presidential candidates, vigilante groups strangling chickens, armed bands of theatre critics exterminating mutant goats. Where's the fun in pictures? Oh, well, there we are. Here's the theme music. Goodnight." --"Monty Python's Meaning of Life"

Makes sense, well, the beginning made a lot of sense.

We give our lives meaning. I find great happiness in sharing what I know with others, friendships, nature, music etc.

Georgiegirl, do you know any atheists? I have a number of atheist friends and I am one myself. We are not selfish people. We are just like everyone else.

How about science in the service of love, positive emotion, extending human life, or improving the quality of human existence?

Seriously, life is what you make of it. I find value in all sorts of things.

Life is what you make of it. I stopped believing in god after watching all the hypocrites sitting in church preaching love and then going out and stabbing people in the back, and stepping on whoever they could to get what they want and then believing they will go to heaven because god will forgive them. I'm an atheist but I believe in being good for the sake of being good, not because of the promise of heaven or the fear of hell.

My meaning in life is to leave the world a better place than how I found it. I simply wish to have completed my time knowing that I had a positive impact on those I leave behind.

Same as most theists I know.

My sister is an atheist, and the meaning of her life revolves around the children. Although, to her, there is no afterlife, by living good values, you help to create a society where everyone can be happy.

Same as it is for puppies and poppies. To make more of the same.

What do religious people think the meaning of life is? To serve God? To be ready to have a happy afterlife (like THAT makes sense!)?

Life is meaningless. And that's actually a very positive thing. It means we have the power to bring as much meaning to our lives as is humanly possible.

We do that with love, friendship, humor, hope, etc, etc.
