If your necklaces have chains, use a plastic drinking straw to keep them tangle-free. Cut a length of drinking straw that just a titch shorter than your chain when it's clasped shut. Cut a slit all the way from one end of the straw to the other. Tuck the chain into the straw through this slit and make sure the straw curls back around it again. Leave the clasp hanging out one end and the pendant hanging out the other. This keeps your chains neat and tidy.

If your necklaces are too bulky for straws, cut some stiff paper about the length of the necklace when it's clasped shut, and wide enough to go around it 3-4 times. Curl the paper lengthwise by rolling it over the edge of a table or desk or some such thing. Roll one side of the necklace into the paper and then wrap the rest of the paper around the other side. Tape it shut.

For pins or brooches and earrings, get an old cloth placemat -- the quilted kind, if you can find one, or anything heavy and sturdy. Poke the earrings through the cloth and fasten them. Pin the pins through it, too. Fasten everything to the bottom third or half of the placemat. Roll it from the bottom up and wrap the top half around it to keep everything safe. You can explain it and unroll it for the folks at the x-ray machine. They'll think it's a fun idea.

i'm not sure why your jewelry needs to be easy to see; that regulation is mostly for liquid items, as far as i know. of course you can make sure online at the airline website. i would just put them in a regular container, a bag or a case of some kind.

How about one of those small tool boxes that you can get at the hardware store? They have many rooms and you can close them properly and carry them with you.

Leave it at home. Take paste that you are willing to lose.
Too many heart aches from jewelery being lost.
