Over the weekend I visited a young family member (15 months) and he never spoke one word! He whined and cried, like normal babies, but never once did he talk! Is this normal for him to act like this, or should he be speaking at least a few words by now?

he should really be speaking at least a few words by now. but every child is different. maybe he was just being shy. both of my girls started talking early. now my 3 year old talks nonstop! my 9 1/2 month old says "daddy" "dada" "mom" and "hey". a 15 month old should at least say mom and dad.

Every child is different. I have a 23 month old that can only say about 3 words. She goes to Preschool every morning and comes home with me in the afternoon, also attends Sunday school so she is around a lot of kids and words all day. We will be starting a speech class next month. Up until now everyone ( doctor, speech therapist, etc.) have diagnosed her as stubborn. She understands everything we just don't make her say it before he we do it. Believe me I want her to talk more than anything and work on it everyday with her but i know she will so I'm just going to enjoy the fact that she can't say no, nope, or don't wanna. Ball if fine for now!

Normally, babies don't start talking until they're between 15-18 months. Some start even as late as 2 years old. Babies are usually able to understand when a person speaks to them before they can actually talk themselves. They may even use gestures to get their point across. But don't be worried, because they recognize plenty, whether they're talking by that age or not.

Children move and talk and do things on there own at there own pace, My son is a few months younger than my best friends son. But my son talks REALLY good. Children do things where there ready. Every child is diffrent. Yeah he should be saying a little bit now. My youngest is two and he can have a full convo, he can count to 10, sing his A B C's. Where another child might not be that fast.

Fifteen months is nothing! I've heard of some kids who don't start speaking until they're 2 (and i used to babysit a little boy - the youngest of five - who was 3 and I never heard him say a word.) (He's now in his 20s and talks normally.) Kids will talk when they're ready, when they have something to say. Definitely do not make a big deal out of this.

some little ones do no longer talk until eventually they're 2 or a splash older. I taught Sunday college and had little ones from a protracted time 18 months until eventually 3 years previous in my classification. I had an regularly happening of 14 little ones. One little boy got here to my classification at 2 and his mom and dad have been very disturbing because of the fact he did no longer talk very plenty and did plenty the comparable as your son. nicely, enable me aid you recognize that by ability of the time he become 2 a million/2, he become speaking a blue streak and become o.k. spoken, too. He become the cutest little boy and there become unquestionably no longer something to stress approximately. He merely had to get to the factor the place he had to declare some thing, i think. i'd ask the well being care provider at his checkup yet i think of he would be superb, incredibly if he's asserting some words and is interacting with different little ones and having eye touch. (you need to to have his listening to checked, besides. this would merely reassure you that there's no longer something to agonize approximately.) lots of the indications of autism are: no verbal communication, no direct eye touch, no reaction once you call or refer to him, he does no longer factor or teach pastime in issues or different little ones, he would throw tantrums and rock back and forth, he would cover his ears while he heard noises. He does no longer work together or respond to human beings chatting with him; would merely teach no pastime in any respect. you will additionally observe a loss of love; no hugging or reaction to hugging, kissing, etc.

He should, but it's usually only at about 18 months that you should really be worried.

Also, you don't mention if you specifically asked if he speaks around other people. I assumed my cousin's son didn't talk like he should, because when we get together, I never hear him say a word. I found out later he just talks nonstop to his mom and dad and other caregivers, but says virtually nothing to anyone else.

Every baby is different, but I think he should be saying some words by now. Just a few.

Different kids learn to talk at different times. And the child just may not have spoke because someone new was around.

It comes to all babies at different times. My son is 18 months old and he can say most small words like up, out, ba ba, ma ma, da da, night night, bath, cup, bowl...stuff like that and my niece who is 5 weeks older then him can talk your ear off However my sister in laws son ( 19mo.) isn't really talking much at all. I wouldn't really be worried about it unless he also has anti-social behavior in that case you may want to suggest that he be checked for autism
