A couple of items. First of all, it helps if you're a pathological liar - thus, you physically do not respond to telling a lie. Since that's less than 1% of the normal population, you should try a couple other items.
The portion of the brain necessary to lie takes alot of energy to formulate the lie. Telling the truth expends little calories - brain function - what so ever, so that's what they're looking for.
1. Look to find a mild tranquilizer. You should try taking this a couple of times before and make sure you do not act like you're drunk and you're sober. Unfortunately, you will have the tendancy to tell the truth. Similar in nature how drunk people get 'truthful' - this is because you cannot overcome your normal tendancies to formulate the everyday lies you live and you end up telling the truth. If you're able to get some ativan or something lighter, you'll be able to sneak under the radar.
2. A lie is dependant on your baseline truth level. A lie dectector session always initially includes a couple of starter truth questions. When they ask your name or some other basic factoid, you should try to remember some deep bad childhood thought like burning your hand or sknning your knee. Your name will register as a larger thought than a truthful thought.
I have to admit that the test taker will be looking for these. You might end up with an "inconclusive" conclusion, but it's a gamble.

Do you remember the comic book character Wonder Woman. She had a special rope that when she tied someone up with it, they had to tell the truth.
Incidently the lie detector was invented by the author of the Wonder Woman comic books.
Only in the United States is the so call "lie detector" actually admissable in court. The truth is that lie detectors are not very reliable and easy to fake.
They work on the basis that when you tell a lie you have to work harder and your brain functions and stress level will go up. First they establish a base line, this is a set of neutral questions, such as, where were you born, where did you go to school.
Then they ask the other questions, such as did you know Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction before you launch an invasion.
The problem is that some of the questions may make you feel stressed and so the result is similar to if you are lying.
Lie dectectors are easy enough to fake. One way is to increase your stress levels during the baseline. This is the tack in the shoe approach. Whenever you are asked a question that you want to answer truthfully then you put your toe on the tack and your stress levels go up. You can also try thinking of something negative as you try to answer a truthful question.
Also practice some relaxation techniques, so you are more relaxed during the hard questions.
Also if you are lying (and please don't lie, be truthful) then the best way to lie is to tell the truth. That is, tell as close to the truth as possible, rather than a completely crazy lie.
Finally, often they catch liars by asking questions. Then leaving the person in the room by themselves. They then observe through a 2 way mirror. Whatever you do, act calm, as if you have nothing to worry about. Some liars have been caught because they try and destroy the results of the lie detector test (one person I heard about even ate the results).

Tell the truth or sting the polygraph. A polygraph is not a lie detector, it only shows your body's reaction to questions and your answers. If you are reacting heavily to certain questions, then it is safe to say you are trying to be deceiving.
Tacks and biting your tongue DO NOT WORK! Examiners are aware of these attempts, and have ways to determine if you are trying to sway the readings. They might even ask you to remove your shoes. Plus when you cause pain to your body, it raises your blood pressure and heart rate too much, and only lasts a short time. Your body's reaction when you lie, is alot different than a painful reaction.
In order to deceive a poly, you have to be able to control your physical responses to a question. This is done by breathing and causing your heart rate to go up for a cetain period from beginning to after the question is asked, and finally after you answer the question. But you have to do this technique the whole duration of the interview.
There is a book, and I know how to do it. So if you want to know PM me.

They are absolutely nothing to worry about. The use a series of questions (some of which they expect you to lie about) to gauge your response to other questions that are actually important. The whole process is a bit of an art with some lying to you by the polygrapher in order to get you to lie at appropriate times so that he can establish a baseline for truthful vs. deceptive responses. Check out the link below, the more you know, the less nervous and afraid you will be. The less nervous and afraid you are, the easier it will be for both you and the polygrapher.

There is no certain way to pass a polygraph. I took a polygraph mid February and failed it. They said I was being deceptive about something when I wasn't. They looked at my background and wanted me to take another one. I took that one last Tuesday at the state bureau of investigations and passed with flying colors. I told the truth both times so go figure. Good luck.

There's no pass or fail on a lie detector "test". Your answers either show deception or they don't. The best way to "pass" it is to, simply, tell the truth.

Don't lie. Because when you lie, your heart rate speeds up (you have no control over it) and you sweat. That's the only sure fire way to pass a lie detector test.

It is VERY difficult to pass a lie detector test, but it's worth a try;
1. Say yes or no, FAST.
2. Don't change your breathing patterns when you say yes or no.
3. Just be calm when you lie, because when most people lie there is a delay of a few milliseconds.

First I would say tell the truth. This could be a myth, but I heard that if you put a tack or something sharp under your foot and step on it every time you answer a question, it throws off something in your heart or something and even if your lying it appears that you're telling the truth. It's pretty far fetched and I've never tried it, so don't rely on it, it's just something I heard once that sounded pretty interesting.
