Beta-blockers decrease rate and force of contraction of the heart. Side effects are bradycardia, low blood pressure, fainting, pedal edema.

why take a medicine if you dont need to. You always develop the risk of physical and psychological dependence. Beta blockers decrease the heart rate, while increasing the force of contraction. Meaning your heart pumps more blood using less energy. Some side effects are Hypotension ( low blood pressure) and Bradycardia ( low heart rate.) Hope this helps.

Taking beta blockers can increase the chances of having a severe allergy reaction. Beta blockers narrow the passages in the lungs and may bring on a life-threatening asthma attack. Hypoglycemic symptoms are masked.. Emergency epinephrine fails to work.

Off label use (cause that what it is!) of beta-blocking agents, as they are called, had been researched in a double blind controlled manner many years ago on Formula 1 racing drivers competing on an british racing course, and medical residents making a presentation for their peers and senior physicians. The racing drivers though they drove better when on betablockers, and made better time, the residents had a lower heart rate and were more confident when making the presentation. Bear in mind, double blind means nor the subject nor the researcher knew if the pill they were taking were real or a dummy (placebo). It won' t numb you to your feelings, but you' ll be less on edge and less worried, it cuts off the peaks of your emotions, it could help you for example do the driving test and pass it if you can drive but lack the confidence in your own capabilities. It will never make you better than you really are.

The side-effects are dependent on which beta-blocker you are talking about.

If you do not need that medication and you begin to take it, your heart will eventually develop dependence on the medication. The side-effects would be hypotension and bradycardia for sure.
