Welllll .... here on Y!A Atheists all deny the existence of a God, therefore they are addressed as a group, the same way Christians, Mormans, Catholics, and Muslims are addressed as a group (in questions). They generally just want to know what Atheists think about one thing or another. That would be my guess.

People always address others as groups, atheists, Christians, Muslims, .......whatever. People can't accept the fact that anyone can think for themselves and stand alone. They have to assume that everybody should be lumped into one group, which ever it is.

Well on this particular forum when people want insight they usually go about doing that by calling out the whole group of people who have a particular label. It doesn't make sense to call people out one by one. Although there are some questions that are meant for the whole forum. I guess some people like to call out groups because they want insight from a certain group of people who have a certain label and only want answers from that particular group. It is what it is.

Why address Christians as a group? It is quite obvious that we do not all act or believe the same or even go to the same church. Why on Earth generalize at all. Do individuals exist?

Most people feel the need to categorise, because most people feel the need to be part of a group. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but you've done it yourself. You spoke on behalf of all atheists when you said "WE didn't wanna be part of any formed groups." See how easy it is to fall into the trap?

If you look at it from the standpoint of a group (i.e. christian, Muslim etc.) it is much easier to condemn people as a "group" than as an individual. As an individual they must listen to individual reasoning but as a "group" they can paint a broad picture and lump everyone into it.

All atheists have one thing in common... they don't believe there is a god. When i address atheists as a group i'm simply addressing the people on the board that believe as i do when it comes to that one point.

Why do we address anyone as a group?
No matter what your belief about any subject, there is always going to be diversity within a group.
You may not have meetings and carry membership cards, but you have opinions as similar about your beliefs as we have similar (and dissimilar) interpretations of our beliefs.
Consider me your fellow asushist and asurgeon, btw. ;o)

Because it's easier for them to do so, and to lump atheists, agnostics, and other non-Christians into the same spot. They take the easy way out of life, did you expect them to actually make the effort to distinguish between others?

I don't know....just to insult, try to prove, try to bring over to their side, try to understand, as much of us at once?
I believe their are more important things to learn than religion anyway. And certainly more beautiful things too. That is my opinion though. Only one.
Though I don't care what religion you are in, as long as you don't try to convert me, hurt me, other people or animals, or just shovelling it in my face everyday also. If you don't do any of these I don't care! Come over to my house and visit and we will have fun and cool discussions!. I have friends with different religious beliefs!
