He is addicted to meth and gets really crazy. He has ADHD too. He has guns. He's had trouble with the law many times. I am worried about my two little grandchildren. My daughter keeps hoping he will just get better. She focuses more on him than the kids. We know he won't get better any time soon. Should I make a report to a family services agency? The children have shown signs of abuse. CPS has already visited them. Would they do anything with this additional information, and would my daughter have the children taken away? I can't just watch and wait while this damage is being done. What else can grandparents do?

First and foremost, the children are to come first. If you do not notify authorities, something terrible may happen and you will live with it the rest of your life. If your daughter is not in agreement with this, then notify the authorities on your own. Most reports are anonymous and you may not be named. But, please, do it for the children and your daughter.

I'm sure you read everyday about a drug addict killing the family/friends/strangers because of the drugs. I will be praying for you and your family.

At this time, I am sorry to say -- your daughter is Co-Dependent with him (and addicted to "helping" him with his addiction -- and, most likely -- enabling him to STAY addicted too).

It would be BEST for your daughter AND your grandchildren IF you do directly see him using (or see residue in the house) to CALL the Police and REPORT it (as well as CPS).

YES, it is quite possible that your daughter will lose custody of the children for a time ... but you should be able to step in as foster parent for the grandchildren anyway.

Isn't this better than the possibility of having to BURY either your daughter or granddaughters or all of them because they died at the hands of an addicted personality who REFUSES to quit or get into treatment (and has a long string of problems with the law).

THAT is what I would focus on at this time. SOMETIMES the spouse needs help 'focusing' on just LIVING ... and NOT having to be AFRAID to LEAVE a relationship that is completely (in every way) TOXIC and potentially LETHAL!

Should you turn him in ...YES..if there were no children involved I would say no..children need us. And yes more than anything they need their grandparents...most likely the children would go to you or some other relative...personally your daughter is allowing this to go on.. if she truly cares, she should be the one turning him in...either that or snag the children up and run as far away as possible....do your daughter a favor. Turn the man in ...tell them your daughter is scared to death of this man.. tell the law that you are afraid for your grand kids.......just remember the longer you wait the more serious this could get.....
