Which sentence would be correct in terms of male and female
1) El pastel está arriba del cuchara
2) El pastel está arriba de la cuchara

the second one. cuchara is fem., therefore de la cuchara.

Number 2 is correct cause cuchara is feminine so the article is "la". Del is for masculine names.Even though in spanish we would say "el pastel está ENCIMA de la cuchara", not arriba.

Number two is correct because a spoon is female in Spanish.
But my question is,what would a whole cake be doing on top of a spoon ?
