Did you click File, New, and come to a screen of templates? Resume is one of them.
If you have a legal copy of Office, you can get all kinds of free templates from:

Microsoft Office 2007 has some amazing resume templates however you have to have a Genuine version to get into them (it will run a Genuine check the first time you use templates).
To use the templates click on the Office logo and select New. In the left hand column numerous templates will appear. Scroll down to Resumes you then have three choices basic, job specific or situation specific (for those just coming out of university or high school). When you click on it it will bring up a preview of the resume. Once you find one you like click on download. Then basically overwrite the text in the resume.
Cheers.

You do not have to go online, there are already some built into word. Go to file New (may have to click the arrow at the bottom to give you the new option, it will appear at the top), choose from template on my computer, and then other documents. There will be a few resume options there.

Someone has already provided you with the link to Open Office. I have been using it fo 4 years and have had very few compatibility problems in that time. I currently have both MS Office and OO on my machine and, to be honest, use OO around 75% of the time. Things seem to be relatively glitch free. And if you want free stuff, have a look at the Mozilla website, which gives you a browser (Firefox), that I believe outperforms IE, and a mail application (Thunderbird), that I have had many good reports about.
