I am asked to speak and as a speaker there are certain 'rules' if you will.
First, of course, is to know your topic well.
Second, dress so that you feel comfortable. Make sure the tie, pants, shirt is pressed and fits well. You will be distracted if you worry about what you are wearing.
Third, make sure you have eaten an hour or two ahead of 'speech' time. You don't want to pass out because of low blood sugar.
Fourth, if you know your topic, have it well thought out, then just pick a couple of people in the audience to focus on and speak to them as if they were your friends. Once you get started, you will relax...just speak louder and slower than you think is necessary and you will be awesome. Good luck.

The first few times I made speaches, I practiced the speach ahead of times, MANY times, in front of people who did NOT know the subject matter. Even the cats would do. I just needed SOMEONE there to pretend to be talking to.
WHILE giving the speach, I usually try to make eye contact with people in the audience. This helps me know whether I'm getting through, need to go slower or faster.

think of the people there as your friends, that they arent even listening to you. that way youll think your on your own, nobodys paying attention....

ill tell you what NOT to do; DONT picture them in their underwear, DONT look away, DONT use your hands too much, DONT read the speech like its a book, use emotion and pause at needed times.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!
