I have a friend who is a hasidic Jew. I don't know very much about their religious beliefs or way of life but am very interested in learning.
Here is my question: Why is it that hasidic women are expected to get married at a young age, get pregnant and start a family right away? And to keep having children!?!?!? I'm sure they must have aspirations, not just to have children and keep the house neat. All I can think of is what a waste of a young mind. It just sounds so backwards to me. I feel remorse for those women. To have such a life.

Like fundamentalists in any religion, women play a secondary role and are expected to concentrate on kitchen, kids, and home.

I personally wouldn't want that life, but that doesn't make it bad. To them, raising a human being is the highest calling in the world. The Hasidic women I have met are extremely proud of their ability to have and raise children, and can't understand women who don't want children, or who leave their children to be raised by someone else when they go to work.

It's a difference in culture and ideology. It isn't misogynistic, and they certainly don't need your pity.

You think maybe the men will have the children?
