Another way to look at it is that only Jesus' cross is mentioned as having a sign above His head with the charges that were specified against Him. (See Matthew 27:37) There is no mention that the criminals had one above their heads.

Crosses looked like T's back then. They didn't look like the one's we have become familiar with today which are a reflection of later church iconography. So I imagine that the two on the middle reflect an historical understanding of what crosses looked like while the middle cross is symbolic of the Christian cross. Hope that helps.

I don't. As I've never looked into that aspect of Lutheranism.
Romans used both kinds of crosses for their crucifixion. However the one we are familiar with. The "t' style one - is specific to the old Aramaic. It means "covenant."
It's called Tau. Or Taw... depending...
So when Jesus says I am the Alpha and Omega - which is greek - the Aramaic words have more significance. I am the Al (leader) and the Tau (covenant).

To differentiate The True Cross from the other ones used on Golgotha on the first Good Friday. The Romans crucified many people...but only one was The Son of God.

Well, typically, the middle cross should be taller, as Jesus was hung on it.

once you in a lot of circumstances see 3 crosses, it really is relating Jesus and both different adult adult males that were crucified. both adult adult males crucified with Jesus were being punished (like Jesus.) between the adult adult males requested Jesus for forgiveness, and the different did not.
