It's called Step-Parent Adoption. I know because i just adopted my step child. Although Adoption laws vary from state to state this type of adoption is easier to obtain than other type of adoptions. The general procedure is the same for step parents, but some parts are often waived or glossed over. These include: The Adoption hearing, Waiting periods, and Inquries into the child's environment. It might also be wise to contact a famliy court lawyer if anything else arises. Hope that helps!

It's called payday to the real dad who will get out of paying child support, and too bad for the guy who adopts that will now be responsible for another guy's kid no matter what happens to the relationship.

I don't think there is a specific term for it.

Its called adoption.
Not sure where you are,but in Canada both parents have to give up their rights. This is something done on paper and the child never leaves his/her home.
After that, you both apply to adopt the child in your new name.

I've heard that called 'stepparent adoption'. You're going to have to have biological dad agree to it, though.
