Would you Accept, Love, and Listen to me?

Question

If I were to say the following.....

"Hi , I want to tell you that, while it is no concern of mine how you run your own life, I ask that you do not threaten to extend violence towards me; and, while I do not myself pretend to have all the knowledge in the world, I do have a belief system that works for me and makes me happy. And, in hopes to be a friend of yours I would like to share it with you, while also giving you the chance to share your belief system with me.

.....would you accept me, love me, and listen to me? =)

While many of us hope others will listen to our own beliefs and align with them, what I feel we forget to do is allow those others to speak their own beliefs so that we might align with them.

Why is this type of interaction so hard for many?

sure! we don't have to agree....but we might just find that our points of agreement are far more significant than our points of disagreement...and we might learn something from each other

I would say, "I'm very happy that you have a system that works for you and makes you happy. I also have a system that works for me and grants me peace and serenity. If I am already familiar with your belief system, there's no reason to share it, but if it's something unfamiliar to me, it's always interesting to learn of new things ...."

If you wanted me to take you seriously you would have lost me at "I ask that you do not threaten to extend violence towards me".

With that in the first two sentances it sets up an obvious antagonistic relationship.

I would accept, love and listen to you like I do most everyone else but in the back of my mind remeber the expectation of 'violence'.

If I say no thank you, I don't want to hear about your belief system would you accept me and love me and not share it anyway?

It's difficult for those who are afraid. Those who aren't sound in their faith.
