Programs are usually downward-mobile.
2007 can read 2000
2000 can't read 2007 unless you have both programs --
In the 2007 program, use File, Save as
where it says filetype, click the down arrow to see if it will save as an older program. If not, save the 2007 program as txt or rtf, then open in Word 2000. Some formatting will be lost but you will have the text if that is important to you.

Yes it can but in Word 2007 save it as Word 97-2003 format. This way you won't lose any important formatting (you may lose some 3D settings if you used them but you can even see what you'll lose by running the compatibility checker (click on the logo and select prepare, then choose compatibility checker).

Same goes for Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

no it cannot, but go to microsoft website and they have a patch that will make all documents work. We have to install this patch at the college a lot and it is becoming more popular, just search the microsoft site for something to convert office 07 to 00...

no 2000 cant not read new updated programs, but 2007 can read older programs !!

Yes, but only if the file is saved in certain formats, such as "text" (.txt), "comma separated" (csv) or any such "compatible" version.
