a creator/god was a necessary development when our primitive knowledge lagged our advanced questioning minds. We where like children asking all standard questions:
why is the sky blue?
where did i come from?
what happens when i die?
where do animals come from?
What are stars, sun, moon?
Why do bad things happen?
Why suffering?
Why inequality?
Why don't I overthrow the local lord?
Why can't I marry my sister?
also, before writing and widespread education, religion was the main conduit of knowledge between generations.
probably, if we don't go extinct/raptured away
or maybe we'll do such a great job evolving into nicer beings and make the world a new eden, god will come down, forgive letting bygones be bygones and hang out with us from then on
too bad i'm not going to get to live to see any of it TT

You want fossils? Show us Noah's Ark. Show us Goliath's bones. Science bases theories on evidence -- no new evidence and new branch of science, like genetics, has ever contradicted the theory of evolution, it only makes it stronger building on previous claims. Each new piece just fills in more gaps ... as in 'god of the gaps'. And the evolution deniers will just point out 2 new gaps as even more "evidence" for god. Why can't they provide their own, non-gap, evidence?

Technically we're already Atheists. We are born Atheists until we are influenced from some outside source. Whether that source be your parents, neighbors, community, etc.... As for the need to have a relationship with their "creator".... that has developed from a desire to learn more about the world, but being too lazy to do any research to really learn.... So they credited a "god" or "gods" to the creation of everything and when bad things happened they felt it was because the god(s) were not pleased with them.... thus the belief that if they didn't please their god bad things would happen to them was born.
It's funny that religious people are always putting down the theory of evolution when religion itself has gone through a massive evolution from the beginning. Hopefully the day will come when people realize that religion is nothing more than over-rated superstition & they will let go of it because all it does is separate people and make people think that they are better than everyone else.

Propensity for religious or spiritual belief systems may have genetic origins and kept the human race alive.Or it could be an unintended effect of something that did help our species to survive, like optimism or collectivism in society. Not that religious belief proves anything, of course.
I don't think the human race will survive for another million years, with the wars and conflicts we've experienced in the past due to religious and political strife, and the recent acquirement of nuclear weapons.
Plus it seems to me that a lot fundamentalist folks in the U.S. have many kids. So I don't expect the propensity for religious belief to fall down any time soon.
I just hope that a meme called "skepticism" and the "scientific method" will spread faster than any religion.

Well, honestly religion (and through it the first establishment of laws and threats for those who didn't adhere to the laws) were the things that enabled the creation and growth of civilization, so if there is a biological need for a form of spirituality, it'd have been extremely beneficial in the short term... Just not necessarily all that helpful after society was already well-structured.

NO, it was not.
Evolution is false. It is magic. Dirt comes alive one day for no apparent reason, forms by itself into a cell with over 1000 parts (if one is missing, the entire cell cannot function properly) and DNA (of which one strand is equal to enough information to fill 1000000 pages) and evolves over millions of years and finally ends up as us humans. This means that we are here ENTIRELY by chance.
Natural selection doesn't exist. If a moose of an entire herd is sick or has a lame leg, that doesn't make the rest of the gang stronger and better able to escape from wolves or something. Evolution and anything having to do with it is simply a myth. Turn to God instead.

The beginning of existence has many promising traces of learn yet no single one is complete and usually known via the scientific community. The beginning of existence isn't regarding evolution. Nature does not have a rule that asserts genetic advice could improve, nor a rule that demands organisms to become extra complicated. organic evolution is extra approximately ordinarily via mutation and organic decision. Mutations are random, organic decision isn't. A mutation commonly motives dying to the mutated cellular, usually very immediately. only on a uncommon occasion does the mutated genetic code proceed to exist and rarer nevertheless is it constructive to the host. .

Education, logic, and free-thought, produces Atheists, for that reason under- developed nations are usually targeted by Christians. The development of the capacity to reason lead to the invention of Gods and supernatural beings, the organ that was responsible is the brain . The brain is where Gods, Demons , Fairies, Goblins, and superstition lives.

I've often wondered what caused those first humans to look outside themselves for meaning. Whether it was because the brain evolved to that state or a genetic mutation, what have you.. it is an interesting question, to be sure.

A mistake? Fill in for the blank spaces? Basically one of those questions yet to be satisfactorily answered. I do not believe in end time scenarios but to be honest with you, I doubt we have another million years to wait and find out.
