I've stopped eating sugar for 2 months now and have lost 15 lbs but I've also stopped eating white bread, white rice, potatoes (all bad carbs) and have replaced them with whole grains and fruit. They now make sugar free Jello pudding, sugar free ice cream, sugar free jello, sugar free candy...Oh my gosh, I had some sugar free Hershey's with almonds candy bars the other day! You're in luck because if you go to the grocery store, you will be amazed at how many items come sugar free anymore. Eat your salads with red wine vinegar and olive oil, or make ranch dressing package with low fat mayo and fat free milk..it tastes great.

There's some good advice here already - don't do anything too drastic. It's not good for you, and you won't be able to stick to it anyway - so anything you do lose is going to go straight back on when you binge because you crave the sugar you've cut out of your diet!

A word of warning - if you cut sugar out of your diet drastically (especially if you normally eat a lot), you're likely to have a couple of days of feeling pretty yucky while the toxins are trying to get out of your body. It's called the Herxheimer effect.

You'll probably get a headache, you may feel nauseous, tired, get mood swings. You can either wait for it to pass (for me it was only 1 day, but I hear 2-3 is normal) or you can just cut your sugar down more slowly to minimise the side effects.

Gradually you'll find that you stop craving sugar so much, as your body's sugar levels drop to a steady level. You'll wonder how you used to eat so much of it before.

How much weight you lose will depend on how much sugar you were eating before, how much fat you have to lose, how much exercise you take, your body's metabolism.....

There is no real shortcut to weight loss. This will certainly help, but the only way to lose weight is to eat fewer calories than you use and start eating healthy foods that you actually like, so that you can stick to your new way of eating.

Good luck with it, look after yourself!

Sugars come in two major forms. Simple and complex. Simple sugars are found in fruits, syrups, honey, table sugar, and other sweet foods. They're present in other foods as well but often other flavors help to hide them or disguise them so we don't notice.

Complex sugars such as Carbohydrates are found in flour, breads, potatoes, rice, pasta, cereals, crackers, grains, beans, peanuts, legumes, and so on. These are becoming the "black sheep" of the healthy-eating crowd. Dietary fiber is also a carbohydrate, but is good for you. If you eat carbohydrates (carbs) make sure you include a balanced blend of fiber.

Avoiding one food group entirely or starving yourself are bad ideas. The BEST thing to do is to eat smaller portions, make sure you get plenty of protein (like meat), dairy products like low fat milk and yogurt fruits, & veggies. Avoid high fat foods and sugary snacks. Get up and exercise instead of sitting at your computer. Drinking water is good. If you need a snack, try carrots or celery instead of cookies and crackers.

Try buying a diabetic cook book.
My wife bakes with Splenda. It is hard to tell the difference between Splenda and real sugar.

First of all, fruits and some veggies contain loads of sugar (carbs). You should check out any Atkins recipes or Diabetic recipes for food you can make/eat.

You can eat dressing, sour cream, meat..

Just don't eat starchy foods, sugar, chips etc.
Low carb diets work great, and you can have all the fat you want.
