You just need to have more confidence in yourself; if it were me I would rather admit that I believe in God and Christ than not admit because the scripture say"s if you are ashamed of me before men then I will be ashamed of you before the father. I will be praying for you and hope that you find the strength to stand up for what you believe.

I believe that God exists, but not the way Christians and other devout religious followers believe he exists. I do not believe completely in the "big bang" theory. There are too many things around me that does prove the existence of a higher being, or at least there was at one point. But I don't believe he sits on a throne somewhere, waiting to judge me or love me. He created me, so of course he loves me, either that or I give him a damn good chuckle everyday so he keeps me around for comic relief!!!!
I am not ashamed to admit I believe in a higher power and I am not ashamed to admit that I think devout religious following is full of crap. It perpetuates and justifies hate, murder and other inhumanities all in the name of a god.
So, are you saying that the 15% of yourself doesn't believe in a god AT ALL or you don't believe in the one that religious texts dictates is mandatory or you'll go to hell in a hand basket. Either way there is no shame in what you believe. You are open minded and willing to find your own answers and be right (or wrong) on your own terms, instead of someone elses.

I was like you...asked lots of questions...more or less trying to prove people wrong but a lot of the answers I got made sense too. Fortunately, the person I asked a lot of questions to was not judgemental of me and she was not pushy. She answered my questions and left it at that. She let me come to my own conclusions in my own time and that is what worked for me. I felt shame for not believing and forsaking Jesus like everyone else did. I was forgiven and was saved almost 2 years ago. Once you let go of that you will be very happy that you did.

I'm never ashamed to say what i BELIEVE IN. I'm Pagan so I believe in many god/goddesses. I have heard what you just said alot about believeing in the Christian god. Why would you stay in a faith you are not proud of saying you believe in.

Shame is brought on by a guilty conscience. Believing in God and not accepting His Son, Jesus, is a shameful place to be. Judas walked, slept, ate, prayed, & fellowshiped with Jesus. He believed in Jesus. But, he wanted Jesus to be a worldly king and take over a throne and it wasn't God's plan for that time. It was time for Jesus to give His life and pay for man's sins so that man could be saved from that payment that was owed, and live eternally with God. It wasn't how Judas pictured it. He betrayed Jesus & ,once realizing it wouldn't be the way he thought, he went out and hung himself.
It seems you too may not get the picture of God's plan for your life. I recommend that you go to a spiritual leader that you know and let them counsel you on what it means to come to Christ. You can never have the courage to speak up for Christ unless you have received His forgiveness & healing power. Jesus says that if you confess Him before men, He will confess you before God in Heaven; and, consequently, if you deny Him before men, then He will deny you before God. I pray you pursue this problem with someone you trust in the faith. God bless you.

You need to pay attention to that smarter 15% of yourself...
Santa, in my opinion, is a far better mythological character. When you mess up with God, you get only one chance and then its off to the fire pits. With Santa, you get a lump of coal and a chance to redeem yourself next year. Either way, both are fictional.

I don't know why. Do you believe in Satan? Then perhaps it is Satan that is trying to get you to say that you do not believe in God.
But next time someone asks you, "Do you believe in God?" you should say confidently and with a feeling that God is watching over you, "Yes, I believe in God. I am a Christian."
The real test comes if someone ever asks you if you believe in God and they are holding a gun in their hands. Will you lie to them and to God and say "No"?

When I was religious I felt the same way, your on the path to enlightenment and closer to the truth. Ask questions because if there is a god, he would prefer that a person use reason rather have blind faith.

Well it is kind of juvenile, isn't it?
Why don't you just say you're an agnostic theist and leave it at that? No-one is forced to defend what it is they believe. You may be asked to justify your beliefs, but you're not obligated to do so.
