I am an African american H.S. senior with a 3.7 GPA and a 27 ACT. I have a full tuition scholarship to Hampton U(a Historically Black University), and I have been accepted to a bunch of big name Universities: Purdue, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Syracuse. If I go to these schools I'll have all of my financial need covered but it'll be mostly loans. I want to major in accounting and I'll go for my CPA and I just need to know is it worth going to the bigger name schools and having major debt for career placement and opportunities? Any input will be appreciated.

Just based on my experience, I would say go to Purdue. I am currently a student at Purdue and I love it. I was also offered schlorships based specifically for my major, so you may want to look into that if you havn't already. However, if debt is a big concern for you, I would recommend going with Hampton. I don't think where you go to school will matter as much as how well you do.

I would choose Purdue. I went and loved it. I am proud to be an alum. Purdue has a great reputation and is not expensive (relatively speaking). Syracuse is too cold, Pittsburgh is too depressed of an area, and Purdue has better name recognition than the other 2.

Hampton is a good University. But they have a code of conduct and a dress code. Business majors must dress a certain way and men's cornrolls cannot be too long. Plus, if you go to Hampton, you must be disciplined. There are plenty of parties at that university.

Congratulations on your accomplishments!! Honestly, I would JUMP at the chance for a scholarship. It is not worth going to the bigger name schools just to have that name on your degree. That is the truth, and most corporations will not look at where you went to school ( I say Most, not all). once you decide to go for your graduate degree, then you can be in a better position to take out loans, etc. I got my undergraduate in 1997 and am STILL paying for it!!!!!!! It is making getting my graduate degree difficult. Best of luck!!!!!!
