Here is your best bet when you are transporting a weapon ESPECIALLY FROM STATE TO STATE.
Have the weapon in your trunk and the ammunition, not in a magazine, in the passenger area of the vehicle. If you are in a minivan or SUV then have the weapon locked up in the rear of the vehicle (approved locking device, safe, weapons case, etc.) and still have the ammunition seperate from the weapon.
Many states differ on gun laws. I know the above mentioned is legal in California and will work in any state since California has very strict gun laws. Whereas in other states you may have a gun in the back seat in plain view and it is legal, Ca that is still considered a concealed weapon.
Without knowing your state this is the best answer I can give you.
EDIT: Not too sure why people keep talking about concealing it on your person if you are talking about concealed in a vehicle.

Depends on the state, in Florida, you can carry a pistol in your glove compartment. In Vermont, anyone who can legally own a gun, can carry a concealed handgun without a permit, but you can have a loaded rifle or shotgun in the cab of your care or truck (even visible). But generally, it should not be accessible to the driver from the cab. To be on the safe side, it's best to keep it unloaded in your trunk. The NRA has a list of state gun laws http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/

concealed means out of sight, or view of others. I would think the case would be considered concealed, other than the fact that it appears to be a gun case, just cover it up with a towel.

Not in most states. The car is considered an extension of your house. Now in those states with big time gun control like NY and IL, you have to check with them.

In the trunk or if you dont have one on the floor of the backseat of the car with a blanket or bag over it. The glove compartment would work too i guess?

Different staes have different definitions on this. Most anyone who has a concealed permit can legally do so and carry it on them.
