My best friend, a wonderful girl, but a flake, says she is having a clandestine affair with a Marine. She lives in the South, where we are from. She wants to use my family's vacation home down there for a "tryst". I think from what she is saying that he is going to "sneak away" from his service a weekend. She says he is married but in the process of divorce and doesn't want to give his wife any more ammunition or embarrass her. I don't believe that a Marine is having an affair but she is given to problematic/complicated relationships (she dated a Black guy in high school kept a secret from her parents; married a man who used someone else's identity; went to Saudi Arabia and got stuck there and guy was turned down to live in the US) and she has never lied to me before. So what I am asking is, is this possible, and should I let her use my family's vacation home? Should I alert the Marines if he comes there? I wouldn't even consider doing this but she has done so much for me.

didn't mean dating a Black guy was wrong, just that she knew her parents wouldnt like it and she was like a spy or something because of it...

ah...again, i didn't have a prob with the guy but her parents did and she was really doing crazy things not to get caught...and yes sir, i mean she led me to believe he was "running away"...a coworker said that it was a crime...i don't want to get him in trouble but i don't want to aid illegal stuff either...my parents gave the home to me, but the whole family uses it...she told me she is trying to get him some paperwork or something...i don't know what to think...thank you all for answers to think about though

Ooooo, she dated a black guy in HS, then kept it from her parents??? What a bad, bad, girl.

I don't think he'll be sneaking away from the Marines, but rather from his wife. The military doesn't take AWOLs lightly and I'll doubt that he'll risk his military career to go AWOL to have sex. She'll probably find a way anyway so you might as well just let her.

Tell her that you disagree with it, but you know that she'll just get a room somewhere. However, make sure she knows that you're concerned and that she needs to think about what she's doing.

It's very likely this Marine has a short leave, or is off duty for the weekend. That is not unusual, really. If you are able to give permission to someone to use the house and trust her not to burn the house down, go ahead and let her. It's really not any of your business what she does there, so long as it isn't illegal. You might tell her that the less YOU know the better you feel about the whole thing.

Make sure you can LEGALLY permit someone else use the house - and if you don't want to let her use it, but have a hard time telling her that, just tell her that you aren't the sole owner of the house, and you couldn't get everyone else to agree.

Would NOT want to be in your shoes.

Is he really "sneaking away" from his service, or just his wife? So long as he doesn't wander too far from base, many marines who aren't in the middle of training or guard duty actually have their weekends off. Again, not all do, but he might. Do not alert the marines as it's probably not an issue and definitely none of your business.

Only you can decide if you want to let them use your family's vacation home, however.

Stay out of it as much as you can, don't let her use your parents vacation home. Try to avoid getting in the middle. You may not know the whole story. The guy is aloud to go out on weekends, they just have to be within a reasonable distance, just in case he gets called back in to work. If the guy is going to sneak off it is what's called AWOL (Absent Without Leave) If he does get caught he will have consequences he will have to deal with. Support her and be her friend, but don't get in the middle of the situation, you could lose a friendship over it. Good luck and don't worry too much.

Your friend is a wonderful girl and a flake?
So she is a wonderful flake.
OK.
She lies to other people but never to you?
OK.
She wants to use your families property to help a Marine commit adultery?
OK.
So, you would lie to your Family?
OK
You want to Alert the Marines when he shows up?
Ya right.
You go girl.
The Marine knows the Rules of the Miltary.
Your friend is a Liar and an easy Pick Up.
And you are a Gullable Enabler and a Liar.
Was this really a Question?
Or are you just living vicariously through your "friend"?

Although adultery is not acceptable in the Marines code , they do not actually have time to run around and check out bad boy reports .
No, do NOT let her use your family's place .
Your wonderful friend needs psychiatric counseling ,
Not people aiding and abetting her derelict ways .

Dating a black guy in high school was problematic? That's pathetic.
