In the last 3 weeks, I've been rushed to hospital 5 times with severe pains in my stomach and back and had to have morphine to control the pain, (the pain is brought on by no specific food) I'm having an op on 4 July to have gallbladder removed but what I want to know is, is there ANYTHING my doc can prescribe for me that will stop the pain so I don't have to go into hospital in the middle of the night and stay for 3 days at a time, I have 3 children and it's just not possible to keep going into hospital, codeine doesn't touch it.

I had my gall bladder removed 3 years ago.......

I cut out all fat from my diet, it took a bit longer to shop, but I checked out the fat content and if it was over 7g in 100g I went nowhere near it!!!!!

I have 2 children, so went to see my GP as I was fed up having to get the morhpine injections at casualty, so he prescribed Tramadol - made me a bit drowsy but took the pain away so I could still carry on everyday activities.

Low fat diet, Keep away from red meat as well that was a trigger for me.
I was given some hydro-codeine and these worked well enough to keep me out of hospital until the op. I also found if someone patted my back hard as I lay on the floor it would help. No medical answer for this one according to my doctor, maybe it was just a comfort thing. My children would do this for ages.
Good luck with the op.

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago! It's the best!! I don't miss it one bit! I also had a few attacks and had to be given morphine! (it's the only thing that would help! ) Can't you have the op sooner? If not, avoid fatty foods at all costs, that's what irritates it.

You say that you will be having an op on 4th July - are you on the emergency cancellation list so that you may have a sooner date? You need to ask your doc if there is anything he can give you for the pain. Hope you find relief soon.

You're going to have to ask your doctor for a better pain medicine stating your reasons just like you have here.

In the meantime stop all fats, fried foods, Milk, caffeine and junk food. This will help limit The attacks. Try to make your diet consist of fruits, vegetables, brown rice, oatmeal, chicken not fried and with no skin, and turkey.

best wishes,

I had my gallbladder removed last year, so I can relate.

I know that Hydrocodone works well, but I wouldn't recommend you start taking that with the surgery so far off, as it's addictive.

Can you request that the surgery be moved up? Sounds like you need to have it removed quickly.

My friend has had this and unfortunately apart from codeine the doctor couldnt give her anything else. She just had to avoid any fatty food in her diet till the op.

Hope your better soon!

gallstone pain is un bearable. i was given pethadine and fortral. i was on the urgent list for 6months. i lost so much weight as i darent eat any food with fat in it. so i lived on salad. after my op. i was able to eat anything . but the main cause of pain is fat. avoid at all costs. this should control the pain. no cheese chips sausage chocolate , burgers ,biscuits use skimmed milk, avoid skin on chicken. no bacon or fried food its hard. but it works
