Let's see: What is dogma? Dictionary.com says, "a specific tenet or doctrine authoritatively laid down, as by a church." Although Wiccans have the Wiccan Read and the law of three, Pagans in general have no written Dogma as they have no organized church. Chrisitians have an organized church and their dogma is layed out in the Bible. So just right there, witches do not use dogma to protect themselves.
Second, witches do not use circles to protect themselves from powers they are trying to use. Circles can be occasionally used for protection of things that could be called "demons" or "evil spirits."
However, originally, raising a circle was and still is a sacred ritual that effectively serves as a church since ancient Christians tore almost all of ours down to build their cathedrals on top of them.
On a side note, most fairy tales are just like slave songs, they have nuggets of truth in them. Witches that eat little children (Hansel and Gretel) and maidens that turn straw into gold (Rumpelstilskin) are symbols of other things in order to pass down Pagan knowledge in a safe way when it was illegal to do so.

Your idea is kinda like asking "Why do Nuclear power plant workers wear protective suits!"
You may be confused about the Circle. first of all, the primary use of a circle is to keep energy in, until it is time to be released. It has a second side effect of keeping unwanted energies out.
Now, if I was doing a Goetic ritual [Demon evocation. Most people avoid this. It's not witchcraft per se, more like Ceremonial Magic] I'd be using it to keep safe [As I'd be forcing a spirit to do things against it's will].
You're right, when I worship my Gods, I don't use a circle. However, when I do magic, I use one. You're probably thinking that magic is the way witches worship. It's not.

OK I checked your profile. Why do you choose to be a Traitor/ Oath Breaker? Do you even have any idea of what you are doing?
And what is so hard about understanding that circles are cast to intensify the intent of the witch and to keep out (protect from) negative forces?
I have been a witch for over 40 years and have NEVER run across anyone who wishes to be refered to as a warlock!

Maybe they should, from what I've read your God loves to go around smiting people. Couldn't hurt to have a little protection from a deity like that. For your information, witches don't cast a circle every time they are communicating with the divine, and it isn't done to keep energies out most of the time, it's done to keep them in.

Actually, the circles are to protect them and their workings from outside interference. It is always bad if random magic interferes with the magic you are trying to work. Circles can also be used to keep your own power inside, to make sure it does not interfere with anything else.

Well I am a christian, and Witches need the circle to protect from other witches and negative influences.
P.S. real Christians do not need Crosses or Holy water to protect them!
Real Christians have the Christ. Just as Witches have their own belief.
GO Bash the Yankees will you leave us to our beliefs in peace!

Actually, it is your Christian God that is all about fear: "Worship me and love me OR ELSE!"
Wiccans and pagans that I have seen making circles are not protecting themselves from the power that they raise. The do it to create a sanctified space protected from negative outside energies...like yours.

Er.
I don't use a circle as a protection, but rather to have a boundary within which I can cleanse and sanctify the space, and as a way to contain the energies being raised before releasing them.

Apparently you don't understand the concepts of how Wiccans and others do ritual. Perhaps if you actually study it you might be less apt to ask such odd questions?
Nobody "uses" anything... they work WITH it and so forth... just as a tidbit to whet the appetite... unless of course you're just passing judgement to pass judgement and you wish to learn nothing really?
