To those who say "Judge not, lest ye be judged": What are your standards FOR?
Don't you go by YOUR standards to make judgments on issues, events, people? How do you make a judment as to what or who is right or wrong? Or will you claim to HAVE no standards? THAT certsinly would be foolish.
A lot of "parrotheads" try to steal these Words of our Lord and try to use them like a child handling a "sword". (no pun intended). '
"For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword" Heb 4:12.
"Judge not lest ye be judged, judge not lest ye be judged", they say. Willfully ignoring the REAL meaning of the WHOLE context from which these Words come.
The context of this passage is ACTUALLY teaching Christians TO judge (rightiously, that is, according to His Word).
For the true Christian; God's Word is the standard for ALL things pertaining to life and Godliness.

liv2ply,
Correct!
For US, the Lord Jesus both warns and commands to "Beware of false prophets" (Matthew 7:15). We could not "beware," or know a false prophet unless we exercised true judgment. For that we are given the correct standard: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).

You CAN'T believe that someone "telling" you that is going to make it happen. Do you? That would be delusional.

Diane,
DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS TRAP OF THE DEVIL.
Listen:
All too many believers remain immature or are actually drawn into error because they seek to exercise love apart from Scripture-guided discernment and judgment. Christians who are mature, of "full age," are "those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil" (Hebrews 5:14).

monodog,
That's true,
One of the reasons for the Church being in such a sickly condition today is that believers have not obeyed the commands of God's Word to judge error. "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them" (Romans 16:17). The false teachers make the "divisions," and not those who protest against their errors.

An often misapplied Scripture is "Judge not" (Matthew 7:1). This is a command against hypocritical judgment, and is not directed to those who in love and sincerity discern whether a teacher or teaching is true or false to the Word. "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considereth not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" (Matthew 7:1-5).

Actually, the last statement of the Scripture commands sincere judgment: "then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." We are not to forget nor seek to avoid the fact that our Lord Jesus commanded us to "judge righteous judgment." He commended one, "Thou hast rightly judged." He asked others, "Why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?" (John 7:24; Luke 7:43; 12:57). Paul wrote, "I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say." Again, "He that is spiritual judgeth all things" (1 Corinthians 10:15; 2:15).

My standards come from what I feel is right or wrong for me. But, I always try to think of both the positive and negative side of things before doing most things. Other times it is morals. I am capable of making my own choices in life and I am the one who will have to deal with any consequences for my own actions. I will fight for what I feel needs to be fought for and I will walk away when it isn't worth my time! There are many fairy tales and books in which each has a lesson to be learned! Life is a lesson. If we all took one moment in time and take all issues that make us who we are we would all be the same...Everybody should stop imposing their belief on others you are all right in your own way as long as it is for the good! Do as you will but harm none sums it it up in one sentence instead of 10. Stop making things so complicated! Why judge anybody unless they have personally done some form of harm upon you and yours! Blessed Be!

Lev. 19: 15
15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
So, to me that means, I have no right to say whether a person is "bad" or say "well you are going to hell for that"... I am not the judge. I believe I can avoid situations - i.e. I don't drink alcohol, so I don't go to bars. That doesn't mean I think the people who do drink alcohol are sinners, I just choose not to be a part of that atmosphere. Or, I do not believe that "being gay" is in accordance with our Heavenly Father's will, but I would never dislike or mistreat a person because of that, but I also would never condone that behavior.
Hopefully that makes sense...I think we are free to judge righteously, like the scripture says, but not "condemn" the person for their acts we don't agree with.

True Christians do not judge other people. Jesus said in Mt. 7:1, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." The basis behind this is that everybody "sins." A person should not cast a stone, when they are guilty of sin themselves. No person is perfect. No matter what they say. God had to send his son, Jesus, in order to get a perfect sacrifice. If a person could have atoned for all sin, I believe God would not have put himself through so much heartache to watch his own son die. But God's act of agape love was for the love of people, whom he created.

Having standards and morals is totally different from judging someone and telling them they are going to Hell. You don't know what God ultimately has in store for anyone, so why tell them that?

Obviously, it is necessary to judge people. You have to judge whether your vendors will supply you, whether your customers will pay you, and whether your employees are doing a good job. And this is true independently of the biblical nonsense.
