even when they come to me?

I have this philosophy that life is short, why have people in your life who are NOT assets but merely liabilities.

Any friend who will drag you down, make you look bad, is someone you cannot trust, selfishly takes but won't give, is someone who embarrasses you, is likely to get you in trouble <--- those are the ones to weed out of your life completely.

You need supportive, positive people in your life who will bring the best out in you and improve the person you are.

The minute you make up your mind that you can move forward without these people, getting rid of them will be no problem at all. Your conscience won't bother you.

If you're afraid they will do something mean or pose some future danger, then you need to phase them out slowly since telling the truth to them will result in your being hurt out of the deal.

Be the better friend, and just be honest with people about what you want and need in your life. If they are any kind of person at all, they'll understand, if not, well, you don't want that in your life any way, right?.

Just keep saying you're busy. When they call you, say, "I'm sorry, I'm on my way to _____. I can't chat right now." If they approach you in person, say, "I'd really love to talk but I have to go do ________." After a while they'll get the hint.

Go to church. You can invite your "bad" friends to go with you but they'll probably say no. You can meet new friends there.
