I think it depends on what you are looking for. Mountain? Comfort?? Street??

I just purchased a Motobecane hybrid and love it as well, but i wouldn't say it was the best brand. I love the seat and shifting... neither of which were produced by the same company that produced the Motobecane!!!

In reality, it's going to come down to the composition (aluminum, carbon, etc) of the wheels and body and then who makes the components (maxxis, shimano etc). It also comes down to how important those components are to you (money-wise).

I actually passed up some "higher" brand bodies that would have cost the same as my bike, because the shifters were a cheap brand and the seat was uncomfortable. So, it is actually a very personal decision. One man's trash and all that!

Edited to add: yes, someone did buy the Motobecane name, but someone also bought out the Schwinn name. Like i said before, you have to do what's right by your pocketbook and by how the bike feels. Test drive a few before you buy. I think the person who asked just wanted us all to agree that his Giant is the best!

If you love your Giant keep it, buy another, hell buy 2, there great bikes. Any well known brand:TREK,GIANT,SCOTT,SPECIALIZED,CERVELO,CANNONDALE don't geek out if I didn't mention your bike, there are a lot of good frames out there. They pretty much have the frame building thing down. A few companies have some paint problems,(cannondale) but structure wise the ones you have to watch for are the cut rate frames, someone mentioned Motobecane, this name has been around a long time and has a good reputation. However the name was recently bought by another company and they are now mass producing carbon frames in the cheapest manner possible which results in a good looking bike with good components at a cut rate price, which is OK if you don't plan on riding a lot or having the bike for years to come. BTW I'm speaking primarily of road bikes.
So for all that rambling, I finish where I started, Buy another Giant. Hope this helps

Look man, its all up to the individual. You have a Giant and love it; I have a GT and love it. If your a serious or smart buyer, any brand is good as long as it doesn't come from Wal-Mart. Nothing against Wal- Mart but any thing and everything I've gotten there eventually broke. If I had to pick the beat brand of bikes, I would go with Nicolai, Cannondale, and Trek. Giant is also a great brand so keep on riding!
Check out the Nicolai Bikes with the Rohloff Setup!!!!!!you fall in love!

after riding for over 45 years, I like a recumbent trike. a Terra Trike by preference, but i am building up a Jamis Mountain bike with an XtraCycle rear end and electric assist. I have a 1974 PPV 3 speed (tandem sociable) and an ancient Worksman Industrial trike. I just got an old dutch 5 speed from the 1950's or 60's that I am starting to restore to new condition.

Believe it or not they ALL are my favorites! the bike you LOVE the most is the one you LOVE to ride! Brand is a non issue! any old clunker can be a favorite bike. i WISH, with all my heart that I could find an old black Schwinn typhoon with a blue band 2 speed coaster brake.....with a big basket on the front....just like the one I used to have as a kid of 12!

Bikes are for fun! they are for utility, they are for lifestyle! Like Queen said.."Get on your bike and RIDE!" (bicycle race)

How long is a piece of string?

If you like Giant, stick with them. You can always upgrade the components for your existing frame. Your question is asking us for our wish lists. These might not be the right bikes for you because the riding you do is different. Tell us the type of riding that you do and a budget and we might be able to make recomendations.

However, as well as branded bikes, why not look at adding your components to a frame? Titanium anybody?

But, until you tell us what you need, we can not tell you whats out there for your budget.

Luck

Depends on what you mean by best. Lightest? Quality? Geometry?

If you love your Giant, then go with it. But Trek, Specialized, and Cannondale are some American headquartered companies with rather large followings,

it all depends on your budget, and what type of bike you want (MTB, road, cruiser, BMX, etc.)

if you have the money, for road I like Bianchi, Trek, Specialized, KHS, Orbea, and Colnago
if you don't have a lot of money, I still like KHS, Trek, Specialized, and Giant

for MTB: expensive = Giant, Specialized, Gary Fisher, KHS
not as expensive: KHS, Trek, Giant, Specialized

many companies have different bikes at various levels for a wide range of prices
