My girls and I have in the past. I think it's a fantastic organization. Do you think this kind of donation is related to one's spirituality or is it simply a human kindness?

Yes I have donated my hair. (That's why my hair is short now, I used to have really long hair that went down past my hips.)

What inspired me was when my mom was going through chemo and lost all her hair, I was the one who would drive her to her hospital appointments at the cancer center. I would always sit and talk with the folk in the waiting room, some of whom were children who were also there for treatment. They were so darling, but it upset them not to have any hair (as it did my mom). I thought if I could just make one person feel better about themselves by having something so simple as having my hair lopped off so they could feel "normal" again, it'd be more than worth it. A lot of people who have never had to go through chemo take having hair for granted. It really means a lot to them to have real human hair instead of a fake wig.

I've always wanted to but haven't cut my hair in quite some time. Once I get my next cut (these split ends are beginning to get on my nerves) I will begin saving. Thank you for the reminder. I never get much cut off but I realize every little bit counts. Alopecia is much more rampant in society than many people realize and hair is also a godsend (spirit-send?) for those with cancer.

I do believe it is simply an act of human kindness. There are spiritual people with absolutely no sense of altruism (see: Fundies:) and non-spiritual people who have more human kindness to give than anyone else in the world. I'm really glad you brought this up. I have forgotten to do it in the past. I will set up an appointment tomorrow and wear a rubber band around my wrist or something to remind me. Let's hope I don't die of gangrene first:)

That's what I'm doing right now. It should be long enough to cut in a few more months. I don't think spirituality enters into it. Mostly just human kindness. Like one of the other posters said just like checking the box to be an organ doner which I am also.

I do every few years. I don't think my faith really has all that much to do with it. I just think of how bad it must feel to have all your hair fall out from chemo and stuff. It's not like I really have to do anything besides letting it grow out a few years, and by the time it gets that long, I'm tired of it, and ready for a change....think I have been donating for about 10 years now....
3 or 4 times so far...

I do, every 3 years. That's about how long it takes my hair to grow really long. I think it's human compassion and kindness why most people donate to Locks of Love.

I donated my hair to locks of love. I think the reason I did it was that I was tired of having long hair and I needed an excuse to cut it. I was always considered the fun-loving hippie, and new I would loose respect if I cut my hair, unless of course it was for a selfless cause! Bingo! Locks of Love!

That's cool that you do that.
I believe it's human kindness, but spirituality can enter into it if you're a believer.
If I had hair to donate I would.
God bless, and keep up the good work.

I plan to do it. I've saved my bundle of hair and will send it any day now, actually. Being that I'm not spiritual in any way, I'd say it must be because I'm "kind". I just hate to think of folks losing their hair and having to wear a fake wig.

I'm an organ donor too. What'll I need them for when I'm dead?

Yes I've done this. My hair was long enough to sit on and I cut it short and had it donated. I just wanted to do something kind.

My hair has never been long enough. It has always been very short and it grows very slowly. When I'm older though, and have longer hair, I'll do it.

And you're right; it is a wonderful organization.
