Oh right. From what I understand, really GOOD breeders will only let cats have up to 3 litters, and will retire them while they are still young enough to be rehomed and lead long and healthy lives - like after 3 years of age.

Some breeders retire their queens after only one litter if she is overly stressed or not a good mom. I have a brother and sister who were a stud and a queen, respectively. They are both 7 years old and in great health. The girl had 5 litters, and she was a foster mom to anyone who wanted it (even adult cats), she still is to my three other cats and dog. I truly believe that ethical breeders have the cats' best interests in mind when caring for them.

I raised Shaded Silver Persians for many years. Typically, 3-4 litters was the max I ever allowed them to have and only 1 litter per year. Any more and you really tax their body systems and shorten their lives. My favorite queen was 18 when she passed away. She had 4 litters in her lifetime. I still have 2 of her children, both up in years now.

As to the above comment that it is unethical to breed cats due to overpopulation, good breeders are not contributing to that problem, it is pet owners who do not get ther cats spayed or neuter that are causing this problem.

I don't think it is ethical to breed at all. Overpopulation
