Am planning a five night stop here and plan to do the touristy day trips. Which hotel do you recommend or apartment?

Depends what your budget is. If you can stay along the esplanade then that is good. Otherwise check out the Diamond Beach Casino Hotel (I think its still called that) you will get great sunset views, although its a bit of a walk to the city center (although only a short bus ride)

Have a great stay at the top end. Stay at any 5 star motel. Oh yeah hotel would be better have a drink and feed at the one place and dont forget to have room service. Look up apartments/units/flats on realestate.com.au - for a booking.

I'm currently staying at the Botanic Gardens Apartments which has one and two bedroom apartments and motel units. I'm in a one bedroom apartment which is comfortable and clean with everything I need for the few weeks I'm here. I haven't stayed anywhere else so I can't comment but this place is fine.

I would stay at one of the hotels along the Esplanade (is that what it is called? The road along the harbour a few blocks from the centre of town)
