how do you mention it politely without seeming demanding or rude?

I'd call and simply ask them when they were going to pay. You could say that you forgot to ask on x night and want to know when you could collect. That's a reasonable question.

It's not rude to call an oversight to a person's attention. But do it quickly so that they don't think that everything's alright. Call them and just say that 'I just realized that we both overlooked my payment last night . . . shall I stop by this afternoon or tonight?" Parents are often overly concerned with how the kid behaved, etc. that you're the last person they're thinking of when they get home. Hopefully it will not be an issue to collect and if it is . . . no more freebies!

Just be straight forward and ask politely-"Could you please pay me for the babysitting I did for you?" You shouldn't feel embarrassed, they should be the ones that feel ashamed for not paying you. After all, you had the important job of taking good care of their children while they were away. If they don't pay up, next time they ask you to babysit, turn them down and don't hesitate to tell them why.

just mention that they forgot to pay you last time or ask if they are saving up the days to give you one big chunk of cash. thats what one of the people i used to babysit for did and it was a lot better to wait and have a big chunk of cash then a measly 20 bucks.

I wouldn't babysit for them again. When they ask why, mention that you don't work for free, neither do I. It is NOT rude or demanding. it's a fact.

You say politely , when they arrive home ,
"My fee for ( this many hours ) is $ XX.xx ."
Just tell them what the fee is and wait for them to bring your $$$ Before you leave.
If you already have left without being paid (NEVER do that again) , call up and say , I wish to remind you that you still owe me for my last sitting work .
When can I expect to receive it ?
Always ask for a specific date and time , not something vague , like "next week".
It is not rude to tell them what it is they owe you , as long as your tone is polite .

Babysitting is a business transaction. You simply say in a business like manner that you need your fee now. If this is chronic, you may need to tell them that you can no longer sit for them without payment in advance.

That reminds me, I owe my babysitter money.

You're not being rude by reminding them.
They are being rude for forgetting it and putting you in the situation where you have to remind them.

Remind them. You have every right.
"I haven't been paid yet" or "can I come by this afternoon to pick up my pay?"

the next day just go and mention that they forgot to pay.
that may be the truth.
if they still don't pay just remember it the next time they ask.
and also put the word out about this to other babysitters.

Agree with "Just Me', also, do not ever sit for them again. They didn't forget to pay, something is going on there.
