No. The cores of pineapples are not poisonous. However, they are hard to slice and chew. Also, if too much of pineapple core is eaten, fibrous balls will form in the intestines because of the strands that make it up. When I say "too much", I mean A LOT. This is rare, so don't worry about it! Go on and eat the core, I'm sure it'll do no harm.

Your friend is crazy. Why would stores sell whole pinapples if the center was poisonous? There would be lawsuits galore and hospital emergency rooms full if that were true.

she is misinformed-the core is what commercial pinapple juice is made from. Its a little on the hard side, but totally safe. I make fresh juice with them all of the time
