Being at the army Irmak, means that they can send you everywhere.Especially when you dont have the rusfet(as we say also in Greece)this is difficult to avoid it, and they send oyu to dngerous parts, where the army is needed.
About Est, and especially south eastern, I know how the situation is..I have a friend there(he is not kurdish)and he says that it is a part with so much tension, nothing to do with the west Turkey..
Yes, in this aprt they shouldnt send hoim because as you said he is a qualified person, and with a particular situation in his family, the wife pregnant, the danger always exists...
But army is army.
I dont know how things in Turkey are, but I think there will be special lows about heads of family, so they must find a solution not to send him there...
Unfortunately my friend...In our countries nothing works without rusfet...

Hi, of course i want to be sensitive and say that going into the army is not a comforting thought to anyone, naturally I am female and I don't have that obligation so I can only speak about what I know. It is unfortunate that he is going while his wife is pregnant, can he pay them off like Tarkan did? It is true that the East, Hakkari in particular sounds dangerous, even to me, but he could also be perfectly safe there. Tell him to enjoy the Kaymak and the honey, and that lamb preserved in all the animal fat, mmmmm, kiss the hand of the big uncle in the village and pray for a short tour of duty without action. Realistically he has a masters so he won't be going into the mountains to look for bandits he'll be working an office job. There'll be fresh air and yummy food, mmmmm keledogus.... I always think of food. I hope he has a healthy baby and uneventful time in Hakkari.

Hi Irmak,
In my opinion there is nothing that can make him (or you) worried other than missing his family and missing his child's birth. I am sure if there is a way for him to see his child's birth, He will be encouraged to use that way. Because family and education status is always observed in daily relations in the army. Everyone around him from lowest educated private to top rank officers everyone will behave to him accordingly and remembering that he is a married man and a university graduate. It is not the written rules but simply the culture of Turkish people. That is why everytime he has to answer many times where he is from, what is his profession and he is married or not. (Memleket nere?)
If he is a short term soldier he will be inside the big army bases all the time. Nothing to worry. If he is a long term one than again you should not worry because no second lieutenant died because of terrorist attacks other than Infantry section. (Piyade sınıfı) (As far as I know) If he is an Infantry, think about the statistics. I am sure it is far less than 1 % for an injury or a dead, which is more than a traffic accident case. I don't have references for these info, but I (and many people) do know count of people trained in Tuzla every 4 months.
After this point I will go on more unhappy truth.
Please also think about the army our nation's our country's security, maybe everyone is not married, but everyone has right to live. If he does not go, who will do it. We are living in a unique country, because nearly all of our neighbour countries have different maps of Anatolia than ours. I am sure there is no other country like us.
It was all his responsibility to defer it until he is married and having his wife pregnant. He had the same rights as he has today when he completed his bachelor's. So it was his decision.
I also want to mention one incident I lived.
In the day of drawing of lots for duty places in second lieutenant candidate training, I draw Ankara and one of my friends draw Hakkari Çukurca he was married a month ago when he was having the training. Everyone around was telling their best wishes to each other except him. I also told to him.
- Hakan hayırlı olsun (Hakan I hope it is good for you)
- Sen hayırlı neresini gördün bunun? (Do you see any good point in that?)
We were in contact from email after completing training. He mailed us that he was temporarily commanding a group of 120-150 soldiers and he was surprisingly happy for the situation after few months. Guess what I was doing that time, I was working like an busy officeboy in Ankara. I never complained about that because my commander was one of the kindest person I have ever seen and above all I very well digested the mentality of being a soldier. If you are soldier you swear on your honour "even to die for duty" (vazife uğruna hayatımı seve seve feda eyleyeceğime) and everything that your commander orders is a duty.

hi irmak;my father is an retired officer(a colonel one) and i think i can tell you some about military life!
unfair is meaningless in military, you can't use this word. They can send you whenever and whereever they want! from marmaris to hakkari.
An officer has to move from one city to another city every 3-4 years.i have lived in 6 different cites;i have changed 8 schools ,university is the 9th one! is that fair?
if your dad's friend is a university degreed person,he has 2 choises for his military obligation: long term and short term.
if he choises the long one; he will be a "second lieutenant" so he will work and earn money like officers and he will be comfortable even in Hakkari, but if he choises the short one then he will be a "private" and probably he will fire his gun to the enemy for his country!! it is all his choise if he is a univ.-gratuaded one.
you can critize TSK for their rules and blame it for being unfair, but that must be like that! that is why Turkish Army is one of the world's best armies and the best self-diciplined army in world!!!

Hi Irmak,
Well, in fact, Hurricane said, All of them right. Good Answer Hurricane.
This is not fair and unfair.
When someone join to Army (I said for Turkish Army), no one said this place dangerous, so I do not want to go there.
This is impossible. This is your chance or well maybe your destiny. Someone goes to samecity someone goes to Sirnak, Hakkari...
Our Commanders said me, Our necessity in that place. So Go ! That is OK.
For me, Fist of all, I went to Izmir - Bornova and then Erzincan, but one friend of mine went to from Izmir to Istanbul.
Do you see ?
Just say for 'Good Luck and Take care of himself',
Regards
Sorry, this answer, but it is real.
PS. To Mrs T;
Hi,
There is no 'Vicdani Red Hakki (Conscience Veto Power - I think right translation' ) in Turkish Army. If someone can be say, But The result Law Court.
Regards

I dont know about the place that you mentioned. I know that men have to join the army in Turkey and it should not be a problem to go to east, west or south since everywhere in Turkey is your homeland. But please do not misunderstand me, I'm not trying to be offensive or anything. Maybe I did not get the point because I have no idea about the cities and dangers there.

Şimdi arkadaşlar askerlik anıları anlatırken bana susmak kalıyor çünkü Çukurca, Yüksekova, Tunceli ve benzeri riskli yerlerde sıcak çatışmaya girmiş GERÇEK ASKERLER'in yanında haddimi bilirim.
Birde öyle babanın arkadaşı için "askerlik hakkında bişey bilmeyen bir insan" diye söz etme lütfen. ONUN ARADIĞI KUDRET DAMARLARINDAKİ ASİL KANDA MEVCUTTUR.
Gerçekten ama GERÇEKTEN onun yerinde olmak isterdim.
Saygılar...

Hon, with the blessing of Allah, he will be safe and go back to his family as soon as he completes his military service. Plus, I am sorry about his situation, i wouldnt wanna do that under those conditions either. But this is life and it is sometimes unfair. But the thing is,, Turkish Armed Forces is one of the greatest armies in the world. So, I believe and will say a BIG prayer for him that he will be just fine and will go back to his family. Amin, Inshallah....

NO NEED TO PITY ON HIM EVERY MEN IN TURKEY HAS TO FINISH HIS MİLİTARY SERVİCE IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WİTH UNFAİRNESS OR BEING FAİR. well, that is sad, but, the logic doesnt work on the military. but, he will probably be an officer, right? if yes, that should comfort you, i think...
although my department is aeronautics, i was sent to air-defence department of the land military. my college friend of my department was sent to navy... so you shouldnt look for a logic for this distribution in the military...
i am joinning the army tomorrow... i dont know where will i be sent, after the training...
good luck to him, i hope he doesnt involve any trouble there...
and good luck to everyone, take care of yourself until i am back...
