On December 22, 2006, Pastor Wang Weiliang and seven other church leaders were sentenced from one year to three and one-half years in prison by the People‘s Court of Xiaoshan District, China.

Pastor Van Thong and 11 other local pastors were arrested on November 26, 2006, for attending meetings organized by Christian leaders from the West. Van Thong is the head of Lao Evangelical Church in his province. He has been denied visitors and is being held indefinitely.

After being held for more than four months at the La Villa Marista Detention Center, Pastor Carlos Lamelas was unexpectedly released when his family went for their weekly 15 minute visit. Informed of the change in procedure, Carlos was able to go home with his family. However, he has been forbidden to preach in public on this Island nation that many Cubans refer to as a prison with bars of water.

Dieterich Bonhoffer, Karl Barth and Oscar Romero are 3 twentieth Century Christians who were persecuted for their faith, with Bonhoffer and Romero paying for it with their lives. I'm not too sure about any contemporary ones though. George W. Bush is one where it depends on who you talk to whether people think that the guy really is a Christian or not, so he might not be the best one to choose there. But, those 3 that I have listed are 3 Christians from the past Century who were all persecuted for their faith.

Maximilian Kolbe- St. Maximilian was born Raymond Kolbe in Poland, January 8, 1894 In 1941, the Nazis imprisoned Father Maximilian in the Auschwitz death camp. You don't hear of a lot of cases in the U.S.
You may want to search for people who are Christians in China, Cuba, or in the Middle East
