Miriam. Christ did not say that the married state does not exist, nor that husbands and wives will not be sealed in the heavens, but he said that marriages aren't performed in heaven. Neither baptism nor marriage is performed in heavne, but must be done on earth. Christ gave Peter power to seal, such that what is sealed ON EARTH might remain sealed in heaven (Matt 16:19). Temple marriage is also called "sealing" since a husband and wife are sealed together. It is an ordinance that can only be done on earth, like baptism, but if done with proper authority and if the terms of the covenant are fulfilled, then the sealing will be valid in the heavens and the husband and wife will be heirs together of the grace of life (1 Pet.3:7.)

only until you die.
The early people have a similar question as you do. and this is the conversation between them.
Mat 22:24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Mat 22:25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Mat 22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
Mat 22:27 And last of all the woman died also.
Mat 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven

From the Latter-day Saint perspective, marriage is only for mortality unless you have the priesthood authority to seal you for eternity inside the Lord's temples. The Melchizedek Priesthood that was bestowed upon Joseph and Oliver in June, 1829 by Peter, James and John, and the sealing powers that were restored in 1836 by Elijah, gave Joseph the authority to seal on earth and in heaven and to loose on earth and in heaven the same as Peter and Elijah were able to do. That sealing power is exercised in the temples for marriages and for families. All marriages less than that are for time only. Sealings can be performed later in the temple even if the original marriage was outside of the temple. The blessing of eternal marriage is available to all who will make themselves worthy of that blessing.

The real question is, does that change what actions you would take now? In this day in age, or time and space? I suppose if one looked at marriage only until "death do us part" then maybe they'd be less likely to treat them with the utmost respect and love. But if they knew they would be together for "time and all eternity" they might think more about treating them good. I always assume "time and all eternity" - if I'm wrong then I haven't lost... only gained.... but if I am right I have also won.

Marriage is eternal and can carry on beyond the grave. Marriage can continue in heaven.

See Matthew 16: 19 "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

But the important thing about "eternal marriage" is that there needs to be "the keys of the kingdom," or in other words, the marriage needs to be performed by one who holds the keys of the kingdom. If one who holds the proper preisthood authority performs the marriage, it can be sealed forever.

In Mark 10:9 we read: " What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. " Marriage can be eternal.

In Ecclesiastes 3:14, we read that whatever God puts his stamp on, it is forever: " I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him."

Till death only

Mark 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

not completely genuine. A civil marriage or one that publicizes 'till dying do you section' is regarded via the Mormon faith. We only even have confidence which you will make a marriage final for eternity in the time of the sealing potential of the Holy Spirit.

Marriages and sealing performed in the temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are for time and all eternity. All other marriages--civil and conventional churches--are only for the mortal life.

Only until death.

"And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection." (Luke 20:34-36)

It depends whether it is a temple sealing or a civil marriage... Judging by your name (arthur_lds) I will guess you knew that... In the temple marriages are for time and eternity, whereas civil marriages only last until death.

Miriam... you are wrong. Common misinterpretation.
