I have, indeed, thought about it that way, just as an amusing counter to Pascal's Wager.
Since the only "proof" we have of the "one God" is the belief of the believers, and contradictory stories about Who is the Big Kahuna,
and there are so very VERY many Gods and Goddesses,
you have a 1 in..er...LOTS chance of being right if you pick just one,
and a LOTS against 1 of being wrong,
so it's safer to honor all of them.
Better to have insurance and not need it than to need it and not have it, eh?

Which people? Lots of civilizations have believed in multiple gods - the Greeks had >300. There's no reason either way, except what their silly records say - that should be a *big* red flag for believing in any.

AJHL - you have my 'vote' for best answer!
Hey folks - Allah is the name of a FALSE god - designed under the penmanship of Mohammed - the MOON GOD for the false teachings of the Quoran / Koran.
This lie is being promoted through the mass media and misinformation sources. Be wary of those who place Allah in the same company as the God of Abraham & Jesus (His Father; Holy Trinity; Supreme Creator).

The Main Three Religions= Islam, Christianity and Jewdaism, believe in the same God, or Allah. Let me point that Allah means God, and if I say it in Spanish "Dios" I'm still talking about the same God. And yes, there can be many gods, but only one God! and why to believe in others who have not given me life, nor created this world...The Holy Books were given to all this three religions, The Gospel (Bible), The Torah and The Holy Q'ran to the prophets, and none of them believed in any other gods, but God, and if God reveled those Holy Books to them, and they believed in the Oneness of God, why to search for others that can not even help themselves?

Because He is the only one who reached down and saved me by dying for my sins on the cross and rising again.
Every other belief is a religion. Because they are legalistic superstitions where you have to reach out to god.
How do you reach out to a God who can't be seen, nor understood.?

I'm not sure why some people believe in one God only, indoctrination?
For myself, the concept of one God as defined by three branches of the same tree? ............................ I don't know. My ancestors had a different concept of "God" before they got subjugated, and given the convert or die option, I rather think they were probably on to something way back then.

Most people who believe follow one god because they can't remember more than one name. I have wondered if this makes the forgotten ones sad.

With such a plan, how sincere would God think you to be? Would an all knowing God be able to figure out your motives with such a plan?
