The true meaning of "Church" is nothing more than two or more individuals coming together to discuss God.

A discussion about God & faith at any given time is acceptable. It is not necessary to go to church to achieve this. Although going there does help in the process and keeps you guided.
So, no it is not a sin, but it definitely would be a bonus of sorts to attend and be in that environment on Sundays.

A man once missed church on Sunday. When confronted by his pastor, he replied, "Didn't Jesus say if your donkey fell in a hole on the Sabbath, you should take him out?" The pastor replied, "yes, but if he fell in a hole every Sunday, I'd have to get rid of him."
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

If you are Catholic yes, but only if you miss church because you want to do something else or you don't feel like going. If you are sick or for some reason absolutely unable to attend...then no it is not a sin.
The Lord is there for us every Sunday, it's a sin to ignore him.

Jesus told a parable where there was a poor homeless man dying in a ditch. And there were these really prominent religious figures who kept passing him by. They were on their way to a religious service, you see. They didn't have the time to waste to dirty their clothes with helping this poor man.
The point Jesus was making was, it was more important for them to love their neighbors than to have the outward appearance of religious perfection!
I bring this up because I want to point out that Christianity is not legalistic. If you miss Church because you have to for some reason, God understands! He doesn't stop loving you because you miss church!
But if you never go to church you have to ask yourself why? Part of being a Christian is being in community with other believers and sharing your life with them. Why would you want to miss out on that?

It's not a sin. Church is not a requirement, but is encouraged to help you walk with Christ and to have fellowship with believers. Don't worry that you did something bad, you haven't. But it will help in the long run to go on a regular basis.

This is what we are told about the assembly (worship service)
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25

I go to church to recharge my spiritual batteries. Just as my body needs physical nourishment to stay healthy, so does my spirit need spiritual nourishment to stay healthy. If I miss church, I weaken my spirit and make myself more vulnerable to evil temptations. Prayer and scripture study and service to others all help to keep me spiritually in tune but going to church and partaking of the sacrament is a weekly reminder of my covenant to remember Him and to obey Him. I took His name upon me at baptism and He has commanded that we keep His day holy. Part of that includes going to church to renew our commitment to Him and to keep us in remembrance of Him.
There is a verse that says "to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin".
I will leave it to you to decide whether skipping church is a sin or not based upon those comments.
Personally, I think there are times, emergencies, that may prevent us from going to church but on a normal weekly basis, that is where we are supposed to be on Sunday.

nope we are to not farsake the gathering of one another. but if we miss church well I think God understands. unless your hungover and cant find cab money for the hooker you bought last night and your meth lab is on full tilt and requires further attention then it could be considered a sin.
