I recently had a small dish of olives I was snacking on. I turned my head for one minute and looked again to find my kitty lapping up the salty olive water and nibbling a pimento! Are olives and/or the juice harmful to cats? Should I just indulge her and let her lap up tiny bit of the salty water?

Cats are purely Carnivorous (only eat meat), unlike people who are omnivorous (eat veges and meat). Olives and other veges are not part of the naturally healthy diet for a cat. Although most veges will not seriously hurt them (like chocolate and caffine can kill them) they can upset thier stomach, make them vomit, or have diarrhea (make take up to 24 hours to go through the system). I wouldn't run her up to the vet unless she has repeated occurances of the signs listed above, but I would limit the intake significantly. And definately never give it to her again if she has diarrhea or vomitting.

As and FYI - Cat owners should pay attention to the ingredients in catfood (The first 3 - at a minimum - should be meat).

As for whether the olives are good for them or not I am not for sure but I do know that salt as for any animal is good for them in certain cases when they have been dehydrated and they need to rehydrate but it has to be in moderation no *** for everybody else up there saying that other human foods are not good for animals ehhhh wrong there are plenty of foods that dogs and cats can eat my cat eats lettuce believe it or not and it doesn't hurt her one bit dogs can have asparagus brussels sprouts watermelon spinach pears blueberries carob and a few others I can't remember

I had a cat that loved the brine (juice) that olives come in. As a treat once in a while I didn't see that it hurt him at all. Same kitty also like drinking tomato juice which the vet told me was actually good for him.

I had a cat that grow to be loopy approximately olives, whether he favorite green ones. many human beings do no longer understand that a definite quantity of non-meat meals are ok for cats. i've got had cats that enjoyed fruit including mango and one that enjoyed cabbage shreds. Olives and ranch dressing shouldn't harm your cat in small quantities. It probably likes the ranch through buttermilk or yogurt style, it incredibly is yet another element cats tend to love and it incredibly is physically powerful for them. Plus the salt. it incredibly is one element you do desire to observe, as too lots salt isn't that stable for them. a splash style won't harm although.

Don't give your cats olives to eat, my cat likes the smell of the liquid from them, she goes crazy as if it were cat-nip. I don't believe they that harm full, just don't actually feed them to the cats, smell is alright like catnip. Don't indulge too much.

Most natural human foods aren't bad for animals. You don't want to let her have too much salt of course, but a little bit now and then certainly won't kill her. Sure, indulge the little one! Just like you and I, they only live once, too!

Absolutely not! Olives (and juice) are highly acidic and, although bad for your stomach, you have the proper enzymes to counteract the chemical breakdown, your cat doesn't have these and it will slowly eat away at her stomachs lining. You will need to get her to a vet.

they are not bad for them. my dog loves to play soccer with the black ones before eating them,. but use catious. dont feed them to the kitty every day. use it like a special treat. once in a blue moon.
truth me animals let you know when they like something and when they dont.
but you dont want them to stop eating their own food with the human version of it.
