It really depends on what you are looking for, but I have lots of AC experience, so let me take you on the grand tour.
First off, if you are staying overnight, the best bet is to stay at one of the casino/hotels on the boardwalk. They are all comparable amenities, so look for the cheapest room you can find. The casino/hotels on the Boardwalk are Hilton, Tropicana, Caesar's, Bally's, Trump Plaza, Resorts, Trump Taj Mahal, and Showboat (in order from one side of the Boardwalk to the other).
Once you have a hotel, walk the Boardwalk and take a look at all the other hotels. Its about a 30 minute walk (stay on the boardwalk and not the streets behind the casinos). If you like shopping, check out the shopping area at Caesars (the shopping is its own pier complex). Also, check out the outlet malls a block from the casinos/boardwalk behind the Resorts or Caesars. Its an outdoor outlet mall with a nice variety of shops and prices. Trop also has a good shopping area.
If you are gambling, take you pick. Out of the mentioned places, Caesars is the most expensive tables. The rest are comparable. For poker, check out Showboat (nice room, weird location on the 2nd floor), the Taj (2nd largest room but dirty), Trop (3rd largest room, decent), and Borgata (largest room, great selection of games).
The Marina section of AC includes Trump Marina, Borgata and Harrahs. You can skip all but Borgata, which is a beautiful place with great restaurants and clubs. (Trop also has good clubs/bars/restaurants). Unfortunately, you need a car to get to those hotels, and you can't walk from one to the next. Feel free to skip it if you don't care about the glitz and glam of Borgata.
For buffets, Borgata and Bally's Wild West are the best. For restaurants, Borgata and Trop have the best selections.
I think I covered everything. Have fun.

Borgotta is the only one worth going to if you are looking for a Vegas style casino. All the other ones might have been nice 20 years ago, but they are a dump now.

trump is nice!I just moved out of Jersey to Va.Once you get there you have access to the whole boardwalk that leads to all the casinos.I would stay at the cheapest one and then you will have more money left to gamble at the casino of choice.....or all for that matter! There are alot of regular motels up and down the side streets there too.Well good luck, have fun and by golly.....WIN!!!

You pays yer money and takes yer chance, just like Vegas and Reno. Do you have a luxury gambling junket in mind or do you just want to have a little adult fun? Visit several if you can and get to know which one is "your" style in case you are planning a repeat visit. Get traveler's cheques and leave your bank cheques and charge cards at home except the oil company one for gas on the way back, especially if you are a gaming novice. Best of luck from all your Nevada friends ready to welcome you to Reno if you have a major afair with Dame Fortune. Have fun!

I thought "going down" in a Casino was illegal. If you don't have the money, you really shouldn't gamble.

Mis-managment in all it's glory. Of course it's not fair to the workers who depend on the wages from these establishments.
